guess i have too much time on my hands , but i have just had two odd thoughts after reading threads ...

in lee's guage pix thread , he said something that made me think "WHY IS A DASHBOARD CALLED A DASH BOARD ??"
CUP-BOARD IS KINDA SELF EXPLANETARY , ITS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR CUPS , BUT WHAT THE HELL IS A DASH Huh

and on the usa site , jason dotson was talking about cranks and rod sizes etc.
WHY IS THERE A MIXTURE OF IMPERIAL AND METRIC ??
WHY DO BUGPACK SELL A 94mm .050" COPPER HEAD SHIM Huh

it's all marketing....   the 94mm bore is known by its metric diameter... nobody (not even us yanks) calls them "3.70's" yet us yanks measure all the engine specs/clearances in fractions of an inch.
If a VW guy said he was running a 138.89 cu in engine to his VW friends they'd probably punch him.

you have a crank in mm , and rods in inches !!!
then you use inches again setting compression .

then , when youve worked out what shims you need , you order them in both  Angry Shocked

p.s. i dont understand the c.i. stuff !!!

all I can say is that the Hp aftermarket vendors have been calling parts by the names we all know for what... almost 40 years now? Nobody wants to run and grab a calculator when picking out which part number cylinder shims they need  Grin
cu in = ccm divided by 16.387
hp Bug motors have been known by their cc displacement since Sarge has been giving V8's a hard time.... maybe because 2276 sounds more threatening than 139  Roll Eyes
The stock motor was referred to in ccm, not cu in. The bore and stroke measurements were referred to in mm, as all European cars are/were.
Anyway, if a guy wanted .100" thick 90.5mm shims from Bugpack, and was in Southern Calif, he's not going to know what the catalog is saying if it read "90.5mm x 2.54mm" and Bugpack would probably never sell any of those and they would end up on a Slow Mover List and be deleted. Then you'd have to have them custom made.  Then you'd want to know why nobody made .100" thick shims.... right? Grin Grin

Just a thought on this , but could it be an abbreviation for dial and stowage hold ?
I seam to remember hearing this a ways back  Huh

mmmm .... i dont wear driving gloves , but even if i did , i wouldnt need a glovebox that big !!
or should i be driving with 16oz sparring gloves on ??

That Splashboard is called Dashboard in Norway, since long before the cars was invented. Dash means "smack" as in the noice the reins make when they hit it...
