I am starting work on getting my 55 roadworthy. The brakes need a going over and I thought I might build them right the first time. I am confined to using drums as I would like to use some 14" alloys. On the rear it is pretty straight forward with the Type 3 conversion, but what do I do on the front. I remember reading something about using later drums on the front with some brake cylinders from the rear?? Can anyone enlighten me?

You can use 58 and later, I "think" they are bigger.
Otherwise, use early Type 3 front drums, those are a lot bigger than Beetle drums.

Are the Type 3 frontdrums wider as well? I guess I'll also need new backplates?
