Those trophies rule!
thanks!!
The 2010 Stock Motor Challenge is in the books!!!
We had our best turnout to date with 7 cars and 8 drivers and everyone got a chance to make multiple passes on what turned out to be a great evening at the track.
Some highlights from the 2010 season include the "Frose brothers grudge match" with Rob & Lorne taking turns piloting their 67 down the track to see who could log the best times & KMH...Carlos participating in an unprecidented 5th straight SMC (that's every year since it's inception)...Shawns front suspension bouncing down the track...Lucas logging time on the track as the SMC's youngest driver ever (he's still got his N)...Blair driving his super clean Type III Fastback for the second year in a row...and Bruce setting new SMC records for lowest ET and highest KMH!!!
For the first time ever we had the "Spirit of the Stock Motor Challenge" award. This year the award was a Gift Certificate for 2 for an incredible outdoor mountain adventure from TAG Whistler.
This year the "Spirit of the Stock Motor Challenge" award was presented to Dave for racing his 1969 bus. And although this might not seem like a big deal...I'll explain why we chose Dave as the winner. Dave had just purchased his bus less than 2 weeks prior to the 2010 SMC and had barely enough time to get the drivers seat warm (let alone assess the reliability of the motor). Dave also spent quite a bit of time in the Tech Inspection. The first issue was that he only had an International Drivers License...which shouldn’t be a problem...except for the fact that he had forgotten it back in the pits...and after a little running around it was retrieved and submitted to the Tech Inspector (who was still a little perplexed to see an International DL). The second issue was that Dave was wearing shorts and the Mission Raceway rulebook clearly states that all drivers/racers must wear pants. So after a quick discussion and a little searching Dave found a pair of pants to borrow...his wife's (although she looks a lot better in them than you do buddy
)!!!
So after all of that Dave finally got a chance to race his bus down the 1/4 mile!!! And even though his ET and KMH are average for a bus running in the SMC...it was Dave’s determination, perseverance and great attitude that made the SMC judges choose him as the recipient of the 2010 "Spirit of the Stock Motor Challenge" award.
I would like to personally thank ALL of the participants for their dedication and enthusiasm!! You are what the SMC is all about and it was so great to have such an amazing crew of people out on the track with their stockers.
