Anyone know what sender to use with the Autometer gas gauges? It's a '67 style tank. Can I use the '68 and later VW sender or do I need to use one of the universal senders? If you can use the '68 and later VW sender, what are the Ohms for empty/full? I am planning to use the Autometer sport comp electrical gauge btw.

My buddy Rick Mortensen is going through that right now.  He ordered a bunch of gauges and senders from Autometer and the gas gauge did not work.  He has been messing with senders and gauges since then.  He is suppose to drop by today to work on his car.  I will either have him chime in or tell me what is going on with this.  Supposedly he got it resolved after talking with the correct person at Autometer.

Louis,

I've gone around the block with a few different VW shops who I will allow to remain nameless...even though they were clueless on what to provide me.  I ended up using a VDO float arm type sender.  The challenge was getting the right ohm readings and then the right sender and gauge for the readings.

The float arm type sender reads 64.5 OHMS empty and 8-12 OHMS full.  Seems odd but that is how it read when we tested it. So, you have to match a guage that has an OHM reading closest to that reading.  The problem I was having was everyone thought that you could just order a 0-90 OHM reading sender but they did not know which end of the readings was empty or full.

One of the AUTOMETER service guys was good enough to swap out the wrong gauge for the right one. I got the gauge that was closest to the readings of the sender.  When it arrives, which should be Monday the 29th, I will send you the gauge number.

I installed the Autometer adjutable sender in my '67 and it works fine.  Just did what the instructions said to do and no trouble at all.  It does show empty a little sooner than it really is, but that's a good thing, and what most modern car gauges do as well.

I'm sorry, but I don't remember exactly what part number it is, but I could find it if you need.

AutoMeter sells a bunch of fuel gauges, many intended to work with the sender that comes in your GM or Ford car or truck.

You have to order the gauge that is intended to be universal.

I have [had] the Ultra Light gauges, so the part numbers were 4316 for the gauge and 3262 for the sender.  Both are designed for 240 ohms empty and 33 ohms full.

I got my PHANTOM 2 1/8 gauge back from AUTOMETER today.  It was a 5714 and works with the VDO float type electrical sending unit.  I hooked it up and everything worked fine. I will need to see how the first tank of fuel goes to estimate the accuracy on the needle setting when empty and full.

do you mean a 3315,that goes 73 ohms empty to 10 ohms full ?
