How about a thread about some of those motors from the good old days that utilized some Porsche, or Corvair or  _________ parts in addition to the VW "base" in the quest for more hp.

Like the Gene Berg motor in 'Little But Quick' ran Porsche industrial motor, then VW based engine with Porsche carbs, Okrasa heads and Corvair pistons.

Or his use of 356 Porsche rockers modified for high ratio use on VW

I know Sarge and some of the other early DKP crowd ran Porsche carbs and clutches

How many other hot VW motors were mongrels made up of parts other than VW stuff?

I find these early hot rod motors really interesting.
