How much clearence on the frame horns do I need for bus/944 CV's?

This is what I have at the moment (I did alot of work on it this morning with a blow torch and hammer!)

Looks a bit close to me, i'd give it a bit more clearance. Better to have a bit more than not enopugh- especially once its gone for paint! Ps car is looking fantastic. can't wait to see it all come together and in the flesh Smiley

Is it too late to raise the trans a little by modifying the mounts?

I've seen guys cut out a little of that section and weld in a curved plate, but it would be better not to compromise the strength there.

Steve, i'm just a backyard mech. I'm going to do this next winter. And Mike gives us the solution. How much hammering can one do.
And keep strenght.
I think raising the tranny is the only way. (HOURS)

I did this on a 63 and i cut out the piece that touches,flipped it over and welded it back in,with a little carefull work on the welds its invisible,with solid mounts your box should never move in relation to the frame fork so even 1mm should be enough,but 3 or 4mm would be plenty

I did think about raising the tranny but I guess it is a bit too late, I reckon with a little bit more 'work' I'd get a decent gap there, I mocked up the CV joint and axle today and it all clears nice but obviously its not under load..
