Hmmm, David Crow? That name sounds sort of familiar, but we call him "Pappy" Grin

Gary shared a few pics of one of Pappy's cars, so I'll share a few more - mine are of the man himself, as well as his very cool, nitrous enhanced '67 which he has been actively racing since 1975.

Here's some history related to David's '67:

The car was built to run the "A-Modified Compact" (A/MC) class of the America Hotrod Association (AHRA, which later became the IHRA). Construction of the car was inspired by South Texas VW racer, Bear Barrilleaux, and his "Gold Digger" C-Modified Compact VW sedan.

The car set the AHRA A/MC class record in 1981, by running an 11.94 @ 108.82mph. This was done using a 1776cc motor Shocked (73x88 -- 108.4 cu. in.), that had a welded Pauter crank, 42x37 heads ported by Fumio, Cam Dynamics cam, IDA's, and ~14:1 compression.

The AHRA was using a 15.5lb/cu in rule for the A/MC class, whereas the NHRA cars in the same class were lighter at 15lb/cu in. This means that a car with a 108.4 cubic inch motor (1776cc) would have to weigh 1680lb in the AHRA and 1626lb in the NHRA.

David's '67 is an all steel car, with working lights, wipers, and horn. In 1984, David added nitrous to the car and turned it into a daily driver for his son, David Jr, who also continued to race the car on weekends. Since then, the car has been returned to track duty, to run in brackets and street meets (with an occasional blast down the nearby county road).

At the present time, the '67 runs an 86x90.5 nitrous fed motor. The combination of a Berg crank, Carillo rods, Superflo heads, and IDAs has run a best time of 10.48 @ 129+mph in the 1/4 mile (6.56 @ 104.8 in the 1/8 mile).
