I was talking to Ron Weiss on Friday night, and we decided to make a run to "Cars and Coffee" down in Irvine Saturday morning. Bill Schwimmer was interested in going also, so we decided to meet down at Knowlwoods at Sand Canyon Dr. From there we rolled over to where they hold the weekly event. Guess what? NO CARS AND COFFEE!! The Pebble Beach Show was this weekend, so NO CARS AND COFFEE. Well not to waste a fine morning, we decided to take a drive down to the coast and then wind up at a weekly local event they call "Doughnuts and Derilects" in Huntington Beach. Pretty much just guys and their Hot Rods. We stayed about a half an hour and then headed for home.

Here's a few Pics.
( Sarge.. I need some tips on driving and snapping pics!)

I drove by a couple of weeks ago and noticed the Ford building was empty! Probably nothing to do with that though. Part of tough times. Sad

Mark,
We got there about 8:30 ish. We left just after the guy on the bike with the 572 Chevy motor took off, literally.

It belongs to the guy doing the YMCA move. Here's another view of it.

Good Lord, that engine was THAT big? No wonder it sounds like it does. Thanks, Scott... that explains why we missed ya. We left a few minutes after eight.

From what I have heard, they were talking about moving it back to where it started, Crystal Cove, not sure if that's true or not.

I thought that the homeowners around Crystal Cove basically forced the Irvine Co. to shut it down.

That's the word on the street. Hence why it was moved over to Ford/Volvo/Jaguar/Mazda headquarters in Irvine, a couple of years back. I highly doubt that crowd would um... fit in over at the H.B. one, every Saturday. I like attending both venues, but the vibe at H.B. is way more laid back.

Did not know that building was sold. Guess I'll have to contact my friends that were keeping that event alive.

I was a very active attende in the early days of Crystal Cove until the end.  Also I was involved in trying to save that location.  It was the Irvine Company land and they wanted us gone along with the locals above the shopping center didn't like the early morning noise.  Honestly I can't say I blame them as there were always a few that made everyone look bad.

Once the event moved to the PAG Ford location it was in my opinion better.  The only negatives are no ocean to look at or the gals with more silicone on them than the cars had bondo.  Over the past couple of years the folks at Ford have been more than accomidating to all.  From what I hear (and I get some inside scoop) even though Taco Bell has acquired the building the Saturday morning event is going to continue.  Possibly we won't be able to use the eating and large restrooms as before, but the food and coffee are outside and there are still good but smaller restrooms.

The reason there was no event last week is because of Pebble Beach.  This was a dark day last year as well.  It should be back up and running this weekend and I'm planning on being there with either the '55 Tango Red Chrysler C300 or possibly the new ride.  None of you want to know why I have a new ride, but I can tell you that it involved a head on collision on August 12th.  I'm walking, but very sore and thankful to be alive.  Wear those seat belts.

My God, John... very glad that you're alive and well. Sorry to hear about your accident. Good to still have you with us.
