D.B.O. Not a club; a state of mind.

« on: November 03, 2009, 07:14:45 am »

A few images from the recent Bug-O-Rama event at California Speedway. Their first event at this venue and as far as getting in and overall organization... it was very well executed. At least from what I saw. The gates opened promptly at 0630hrs. then the car show staff was more than accommodating for the clubs and their parking/grouping needs. Much kudos to the promoters for that, alone. I hope that the racing portion of it went well, aside from the usual cars breaking and oil downs, of course. Another cool aspect... the swap meet area was held in the lot that's west of the track. And to make that even better, they even provided a couple of tram shuttles giving people rides back & forth throughout the facility. This set up allowed more room for the car show area to reside alongside the pits and staging lanes. Which makes a lot of sense. We were able to watch races and see all of the cars lining up for their runs. Too cool!

The weather was hot and sunny... not bad for an autumn day in November.

Congrats to Susy!

Yes, they're real.

We took the shuttle back to the car show area from the swap meet.

Porsche 550 Spyder kit car had ample air cooled power.

Begging for Cal Look treatment, yes?

Memories, anyone?

The next three images are of a '52 Type 1 convertible that I really like.

Triangular aesthetics can be found in the past/background and the present/foreground. Can you see them?

DEEKS!

Hopefully, we'll see the return of this event in the future. To the promoters; thank you for understanding the whole car club thing. It's greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for the kind words. Here are a few more that I found.

Der Kleiner Panzers.

Fabian, we share the same taste in K.G.  cabriolets, yes? Same car as your pic... Ernie Barron's.

Dan's, with newly installed three spoke Porsche 911 steering wheel. (wish that I actually took a shot of the wheel)

Sorry... but I couldn't resist.

Thanks, Fabian. To answer your question... Ernie is an old friend of the club and his younger brother, Pee-Wee, was an active member. Ernie might as well been, too. There are some old shots of his late model in some of the D.K.K. threads on The Lounge, dating back to the '70s. He and Pee-Wee always had class act cars then and now.

Nice shots, Mark! I love the 6 digit license plate effect too!  Grin

Tanx, Dan. Oh, you like?

HAHA!! Good one, Stephan. Maybe you're right... I took the picture 'cause I presumed it was a 3½" alloy.

Scary... you just might be right.

Sorry, I only know that Ghia to be it's current green color. It's for sale, too. Has a good looking engine, as well.

Sie sind sehr willkommen für den Bericht. Sie haben mein Auto mit den angestrichenen Teestäben gesehen, ja? Ich mag jene und meine Chromstoßstangen. Anfeuerungen!

Warum Ihr Auto nicht dort war?

Hmm... sorry, but you lost me on that one. I think you missed the Bug-O-Rama event because you were kayak fishing with your kids at Pismo Beach, yes? If so, hope that you all had a good time. When are you gonna bring the black car out again? Haven't seen it since the Classic.

You're quite welcome, as always, Fabian. Different car, same body ('70-'71). That was one sweet car.
