since quite some time my car has some shifting moods with increasing incidence.
by shifting moods i mean that i experience some problems with shifting gears.

the predominant thing is shifting down, from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd while driving and slowing down.
at those moments i cannot get it in the previous gear and i feel very much resistance. i feels like i haven't placed the shifter correctly into position but i certainly have.
sometime i can force it into the gear but that just doesn't feel right. other times i put the gear in neutral, release the clutch and kick the clutch back in and most of the times it does get into gear after a attempt like that(but i have already lost a lot of speed and time). sometime i even have difficulties getting it in 1st gear with the engine running from neutral. it rarely happens when shifting up..

as the title says, this happens with moody fluctuations. it doesn't happen until after some time of driving and is dominant halfway the drive and comes with moods during each trip.
another curious fact: i usually leave the car in 2nd gear when parked and when i start up the engine again(with clutch kicked in) i feel a hard bump coming from the back at the moment i turn the key. i also have some difficulties putting the car into reverse gear and often have to release and kick back in the clutch to get it into reverse.

has anyone experienced the same before of have any idea what can be the problem?  Huh(bad transmission lubrication? displacement of engine into the gearbox? about a year ago i fitted a new linkage of the shifting rod into the gearbox so i don't suppose the problems lays into the linkage into the gearbox, but who knows..)

i hope you folks could help me out. Embarrassed

Some vehicle details and current spec might help get to the root of things.  Smiley

Have you looked at the shift rod support bush yet, it may not be the whole problem, but it's a good place to start..

Also Have you fitted new gearbox mounts by any chance? or have you checked that the mounts you have are all good.. and by that I mean by removing them and inspecting them carefully.

I had a similar problem on a '67 and after much head-scratching, my Gearbox Mounts (that looked fine) were actually to blame.

Try the shift rod coupling as well, one i fitted lasted  about 500 mile before it was shot , a new one sorted the problem and only cost a few ££

the thing is, i fitted a new shift rod coupling and support bushing about a year ago..

car specs, '69 economy beetle 1200, changed the gearbox after break down of first due to too quick shifting 3 years ago. didn't do it myself so don't know what kind of box it was but i'm pretty much sure that it was an identical one.

i didn't fitted new gearbox mounts.. can check them when i get the chance.

any other ideas?

Sounds like you just have to adjust your clutch cable?!
