Others here have said it so much better than I could.  Unspeakable sympathies to Frenchy, Marc, and family.

Folks,

Here is something that cheered me up.

Wednesday was the first time I was able to mee the AML specialist who was overseeing the whole treatment. She normally works during the day, during the week. Since I was working during the week, I never met her.

I asked her about the rarity of this, which is something I tried hitting the internet for with mild luck. My best find was an estimate of around 1 in 5 million. She explained this was a bit more rare; she said she had about 40 cases from europe over the last 25 years, which most closely matched Violette's.

I asked if there was anything in Violette's case that would help further the knowledge base, and perhaps other children in the future.

She said Violette's overall case from birth to death was so abnormal, and had so many strange things happen at the same time (many things they thought weren't possible) that she is going to write up Violette's full case and submit it for publishing in the major medical journals. She said she learned quite a bit during this time, and the other specialists around the country and world also gained new insight about how to approach this.

Right before they placed her in my arms to let her go, they asked about whether or not we would give consent for an autopsy. We asked if it would give us definite answers about the infection that caused this, her bone marrow health, etc. She said they could learn quite a bit from looking at her organs and studying her.

As a huge fans of science, technology and medicine, we told her we would be honored to contribute to the further understanding of the cancer, and especially this one since it is so rare.

So in short, she will be immortalized not only in the family memories, but also in a medical journal where her case will be cited and referenced by other doctors in the field of cancer research and treatment.

Being a big nerd, I am pretty happy my child is going to be important to science.

Thanks for all the support folks, it means the world to me, Tanya and Jacqueline.

That's wonderful Marc. I pray that what you and your family have been through will keep another family from going through a similar incident.

I admire and respect you and your wife for making this decision, Marc. Like Rick posted... I hope that you never have to endure this tragedy ever again. May God bless you all.

Again we all appreciate your prayers and your concerns since the beginning for Violette.  I personally have good memories of my beautiful Violette to have been able to see her and to talk to her everyday.

    Thanks

To Marc and Frenchy and off course their familiy.  My condolences to this deep loss.  I lost my father earlier this year and ok he was 64 and this isn't to compair with the loss of a child but if you have had this in your closest family, you know what it is to live with it...

Think of the memories you had with Violette and let her live in your memories...

Once again, my condolences.
