Use aftermarket junk!

Broke the Alt Bracket on my 66 Yesterday. Luckily, I was almost home and didn't hurt the motor. That would have been bad. I have a German one coming form my friend Bruce and Ordering some stuff from Berg today. I guess it couldn't take the solid mount and possibly a stock fan.

Today I am ordering HD motor mounts, Welded and Balanced Fan and Rubber Mid Mount kit from Berg....Can't wait to get the Zots! Now all I have to do is clean the engine and back of the car.....Close call.

Common deal with those cheesy aftermarket stands. Not only do they break, like yours, but many of them do not position the alternator in the correct location, or square with the crank pulley (perhaps why they break in the first place). German alternator stands are the only way to go. If you look at the VW swap meets, they are usually super cheap, but a little dirty.

Thanks Deano. I have one coming.

It is amazing that most people trust the OR german stuff more than the aftermarket crap.

German parts rock! Can't top them, save for some exceptions perhaps.
That's why I sometimes frown at restorations or builds with "all new parts"...

Folks...I don't post on here that often but, your spot on...I hate to be a "profit of doom" but if that isa cheap aftermarket Alternator pulley - get rid of that as well...seen them crack and explode..makes a nasty mess of the inside of a decklid..like I say - just in case..

The genuine Volkswagen stands can't take out of balance fans either. Years ago an ex g/f's car was making a low frequency rumble just above 2000rpm and I figured "crap in the fan." Reached back there, found nothing. She needed car for another's day commuting, so stupidly, I let her take it. The following day she brought it back to me with gen stand looking like pic above. Not a fun job in a stock carbureted dual port motor.

Cheesy Damn, guess I'm getting too predictable.  I reckon I'd best hang back awhile from my anti-EMPI crusade since I elicited the hard-core wrath of Roy at MOFOCO over there on the Samba.  Lol.

HAHA. Too Funny. I got an OG one. Putting in a Berg fan and some HD motor mounts and dumping the solid mount. Just bought the car and it is just the typical growing pains. I have a Clyde Berg breather coming also.....I may as well do it all and be done with it....

An interesting side note is that MOFOCO is apparently a distributor for EMPI, lots of products listed on the web site.  Guess I was just a thorn in Roy's side... he may be going balls-out to turn around a pretty shoddy reputation, as far as I can tell he's got a long way's to go.  I know of at least one guy waiting on an engine that's way past hte promised finished date.
