Jim, saw this and thought of you...

Yeah, I know it's a bit of a wreck, and overpriced at that, but what a car to put one of your "Porsche charachter" motors in! Wink

It looks to have a very fine Corvair engine in it. A little spit shine and some floor pans and a way you go.

Couple of things come to mind... Grin

when I was a kid, meaning around 6 yr old, our neighbor across the street was building one of those. It was metal flake, grape-soda-can purple. Slot mags, white lettered tires. The metal flake was so heavy the car looked like it was made of sequins. had some VW motor in it, think it was Type 3 because I remember it running and seeing some "fan thing" turning in the back of the car. Had dual cannon style glass packs. I was already into sports cars, and even back then, I couldn't understand why the guy was building "that". My mom drove me to school in a white Alfa Sprint Veloce with an Abarth muffler, so I knew 'what was cool' and 'what sucked.' His purple project sucked. Reminded me of the garish, unrealistic models Hot Wheels used to put out. (Matchboxes were always much cooler).

I saw an ad for one of these about a year ago, think somebody emailed me the link... it read something like "Steve mcQueen Porsche 917 movie car" and was done up in Gulf/John Wyer livery. Except it wasn't # 20, it was "02".  Roll Eyes

I know somebody, some of you may know him too, very much in the know when it comes to fast VW's, etc... he's got plans to build a badass one of these...seriously.

I'd rather build a single seat sandrail with a 917 flat 12 motor and a 50 caliber gun.

Now THAT would be cool! Cheesy

I know what you mean about kit cars - most of them are just plain crap! The combination of looking (a bit) like a Porsche race car but in metalflake gelcoat just jars horribly! Lips Sealed I'm looking forward to seeing the one you know of though, I can imagine one of your motors just ripping along in one of them.
