Finally after the long break I took my ‘65 to a track for some test passes to get it somewhat dialed in for SCC, the main event of the season!
With the help of friends I was able to run a couple of high 9s at slightly over 225km/h. Boost was only 1,4bar, official weight 922kg with driver in full street trim (except for the wheelie bars, which are still needed).

I have had this car since 1989, with at least 10 different engines during the 90s, along with some stupid mistakes like the 1-piece fiberglass front end after an accident in the winter of 1993. The specs turned more serious in 2002 and I was able to run high 9s in 2003-2005. During 2006-2009 the car mostly just sat in a barn.

The specs have not changed much since 2002; the engine is the same old 2332cc turbo EFI, with a Mendy transmission and 10.5x26" dot tires. What is new since 2005 is the back-half (ladder bars and coil-overs) in order to leave the wild launches in history, wide-5 brakes and wheels for the correct looks, and some minor details around the car. BTW, the ladder bars seem to make all the difference; the car behaves so much better from launch to the end of the run. Naturally there is a lot of work ahead to get the most out of the new rear suspension.

A couple of photos:

See you in SCC,
Jyrki

ps. yes, the weather was nice and it was pretty hot in a black car, wearing a black firesuit

It runs and revs sooo sweet and smooth, VERY impressive!

922 kg including driver? So, its quite a light car actually  Grin

I really like the G-force gauge - the ignition key. It seems Jyrki is still missing at least a hundred horsepower since the key is close to horizontal only through 1st gear and starting to fade on 2nd! Haha!  Grin

Erich

No secrets here. The engine is the one we originally built in 2002, and later changed the cam and some other small stuff. It's 84x94, based on an old ARPM 3-piece case, 'vintage 1988' wedgemated GB crank, Bugpack 5.6" H-beams, JE pistons, cylinders made in Finland, 6 studs per cylinder, C/E heads with 45.5x40 valves, 8:1 compression, FK-89, Pauter 1.5:1, single throttle body, liquid IC ($100 ebay special), 1 3/4 header, custom Holset turbo... Lots of home made stuff by JP Pukema and Markku Esko from Oulu/Tornio. This year it made 405rwhp at 1.4bar boost, and that's where the injectors maxed out.

Congrats Jyrki, what is impressive is how straight your car run. Nice!

Looking forward to seeing you again at SCC, until then enjoy the summer!
