Andy, there are two types of '66 door handle. The early style has the square handle, the same as the earlier cars, the later cars have one that looks like the '67 round push button, but fixes to the door frame with two screws instead of one. They're not easy to find. You might be better having your lock rebuilt.

I put '63 door handles and latches on my '66.  As my car aged the latch would not work very well even when lubricated.  I had a hard time unlocking it from the outside and broke more than one key.  Art Thraen told me the tick was early handles and latches.  The early ones lock the button so you cannot open the door.  They do not flip a latch mechanism.  The only thing is that the only door with a key is the driver (US) door.  You have to lock the other side from the inside.  It works well for me.  I didn't care about having the original handles even though I had round button handles.  That's just me.
