After 12 years of joyfull use my old FAT FC445 (babe erson cam and johnson lifters) went flat due to change of oil formula (i can prove it).....So I bite the bullit and got it all fixed, car done by christmas and now the wheater is perfect and my cam goes flat once more, due to the lifters this time (i can prove it)........................so I guess I am up for a third try or maybe I should stop playng with Volkswagens!!!!

That sucks! How are you solving the problem? Bushing the case for type 1 and Udo lifters?

It is not the way the lifters are shaped, more the way they are manufacured and I don't want anything exotic...it's just a street car, remember....so I am looking for regular, working lifters.....like they used to be and while I am wishing, a decent oil that works with flat tappet cams!!! Nothing else but common things that used to work in the past!!

We have been using Rotella 15/40 or straight 30w.  It is supposed to have a higher zinc content.

I used Mobil 1 from 1993 approximatly and due to them endning I had to go for new oil, supposed to be same formula and name bur cam went down after approximatly 6 months. Oil bought in 2004..........Nothing else changed and motor togehter for 3 years. I had K800 springs and 1,48:1 rockers coupled to a FC445 cam (254 deg at .050" and .540" lift), 48*40 valves and GB 160 000 PSI push rods.

Hi
This is nothing exotic. This style of lifters work for over 25 years now here in Germany. And you can run all oil you want , from 15 40 to synthetic .  I found out that there is no other lifter that works for a longer time
