i have a question regarding some issues with the 2276 engine i have built. it runs OK, but some issues occured during the break in period of the cam.

one of the pushrodtubes has a leak on the seam (number 4 cylinder) and when the engine is revved up it pours out oil which seems logic to me since there is considerably more oil on the 3-4 side of the engine.
but there is also oil coming from under the fuelpump (yes i hope to be able to run a stock oilpump with 48 dells) but that was maybe a bit greasy when i replaced it and may not have sealed properly. and last i have oil coming from behind the glandnut of the pulley... i does not come from the sandseal but from within the pulley.

so why does it leak there? i have been thinking that there is a big pressure builtup in the case and that it is forced out anywhere it can be forced out, with the above as a result. so far there isn't any breather system on the engine (i had a breather tower installed on the dynopedestal, but that leaked when i added oil, so i removed that for a closed tube extension) and i haven't drilled the valvecovers yet.
so will the placement of a breatherbox and/ or a breathertower solve this problem? or do i need to get rid of the fuelpump and have a breathline there as well? i was hoping to be able to keep the stock pump if possible.

I would say yes, a friend of mine had a big engine built.  It was plumbed for breathing but....he didn't vent it to the atmosphere just back into the case and it did the same thing.  He phoned me in a panic I popped over and found the problem, I removed one hose from the CB breather tower and viola it was fine.

Same thing here. When we first fired up AssHull's 1915 it did the same thing, I pulled the filler cap off to finish break in, then re engineered the breathing. Live and learn!

i have installed covers with breatherhoses and have been able to fix the leaking breathertower so that solves most of the troubles for now.

but i also wanted to recheck the jets i have used as it seems to run quite hot. i haven't got actual figures yet, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction as well.

2276 engine with an fk8, 9.2 CR, 42x37 valves with 48 tri-jet dellortos, stock oilcooler and fullflow of course

main jet 180
air correction 200
idle jet 70
venturis 40

seems to be what is needed, but i care for a second opinion

I've been wracking my brain for a year now jetting my 48 Dells. While I'm no expert, your current jet stacks should be safe to get a few miles on. If it is a fresh motor, it'll be a little warm at first.

well i haven't made a picture of the final engine yet as it may still be changing a bit. but it will be used in the fastback for now. However it is a type1 engine... i prefer a type3 with a type3 setup, but i haven't been able to fix the lifterbores and rebuild the type3 engine in time for EBI. so this will have to do.
i bought a bunch of parts here on the lounge from airstuff a year ago with the idea to keep the heads and case and sell the other parts, but the engine he was planning seemed to be a good copy of what i like as well. so i thought of building it and selling it as a whole.
so it is a engine with
82 (vw journal crank) lightened flywheel stage 2 pressureplate
94 mahle P&C's
he wanted to use a fk10, but i opted for a fk8
scat I beam rods, which i swapped for porsche H beam length rods, Cb rockers
30mm oilpump, system one oilfilter, scat sump
steve tims stage 2 heads with 42x37 valves and matchported IDF manifolds
48 trijet dellortos
tayco linkage
019 screamer distributor
CB aircleaners with special one off velocity stacks made after the original ones from dellorto but made to fit under the filters
a bunch of work as litterally not one part fitted right out of the box. i have assembled it so far 4 times to make it all fit and turn.

thanks for the comments. as for the horsepower... i hope it will be there and most of all i hope to finish it all in time and just be able to go with the fastback to EBI.
otherwise there is Speedwells car that seems to be running OK now Grin

Hello Nicolas,

I am very glad everything is going as expected,and hope to see some pictures and the sound of the engine .

I haven't been here for a while,but i try to cactch up to see how your project is going.

As for the parts,I believe there was a lot of work involved with this engine,but now at the end,you can be proud about what you have done  Wink

Hope you will solve all minor problems,and enjoy what you created with your bare hands Smiley
