Stupid if you ask me. And the comments are hugely funny – even when one guy points out the car was from the USA, they ignore him. Roll Eyes

You know, some of those guys in the hard-core (note that I said hard core, as I'm addressing a VERY specific group of twits) traditional rat/hot rod scene really need to get a calendar... and the guys I describe are like the author of that particular article, as well as the nerds in the current rat/traditional rod magazines that still refer to women as "Betties" and use the word "kool" as an adjective, etc, etc.  Their eyes are only open to their own little narrow world.  It's kind of comical, really.

I love traditional hot rods as much as anybody, and have respect for just about anything automotive, but the type of clique-ish BS that is espoused by threads like the one posted here reveal how childish some people really are.

Jalopy Journal site is also famously unfriendly to VWs/anything foreign.

I have to put my 5 cents - threepence in here guys..there is a hell of a lot of people on the H.A.M.B who have a lot of respect for the vw scene. Ryan has his tongue firmly in his cheek with his blogs - you have to read all of them to get his style, you only have to read Rod and Custom to hear about how most of the "names" in the traditional hotrod/custom scene cut their teeth on those funny foreign cars with the engines in the back... Wink

Viva La Hamb..but Viva the lounge even more Cheesy

In hindsight, my impressions were purely from a non-frequenter and from first gut instincts...it looks like there's quite a few VW supporters in the replies posted, though!

One of the reasons why I like Volkswagens is I can be who the feck I am and don't have to fit to any mold or style as a person. No mandatory tattoos nor rebel rodder uniform, which would be so cool personal statement/style when guy standing next looks the same  Grin

Quote from: copied from the link
8 0r 10 years back, motor trend or car and driver did an article on porsche doing some testing at Daytona on their latest super car.It just so happened Rusty Wallace was testing his nascar ride at the same time.long story short,he blew them out of the water.I wish i kept that article.maybe someone here remembers it.

And comments like this.. Professional world-class racing driver on familiar track vs unknown test driver (who was the other driver? why not say the driver was Schumacher, and Michael not Half Schumacher, to make a better story and the Nascar guy gets to beat F1 driver  Tongue)? What was each team testing? What stage in development was the test car? Test car of a production sports car vs racing car? So it's prooven that the Porsches suck then?

^^I hear that! Grin

Regarding that Porsche vs. NASCAR thing, the way that sentence was written in the original link, I couldn't tell if he meant that the Porsche beat Rusty Wallace or vice-versa... in either account, I'm no NASCAR fan.  Four hours of going real fast and turnin' to the left, sometimes!  Cheesy
