Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« on: August 12, 2012, 01:23:43 am »

Here is one I did 15 years back in my 67 bug street car. Did it in 2nd gear. Drove it on the BERG Cruise to Detroit 7 weeks later in May of 1997. The YouTube link is below. Be sure to post some shots of your street cars doing burnouts too!

This is the response to RM's burnout in the OceansStreet contest ... thats 2nd gear @ 7000+ rpm ... rolled out when I heard the tires/asphalt start to crackle, thought they were gonna BLOW! LOL

I have a bunch of old 8mm film reels (no sound on them though) and VCR tapes I took from the old days of a lot of famous cars doing burnouts and wheelies. I have been meaning to get them transferred over to DVD so I can post some. This might be the motivation I needed.

NICE ONE!. Love to see street cars show off the ponies! Great promotional tool for converting the non-VW owners to Hot VWs.  :-)

Thanks Rick M and Texas Tom for your Burn Out Clips. Is there a '67 theme going on. There will always be a special place in my heart for Busses doing big smoky burn outs Smiley

Rick S.... I am a 67 die hard through and through.  Arizona still has not abandon the 67 and later emissions rule. When they do, I will have to build another one.  Until then, I had to make my current ride a 66.  I have always been partial to the 67 from my early days.

I never got back with you on my end play issue...that you gave me some input on.  I did end up setting it with a little more clearance than the .003-.004 as we discussed.  Was glad I did.

Great stuff!  I cannot get over some of those EUROPEAN Bays doing burnouts.  It is making me rethink my Bay Window project. :-)

I will never forget Dominick's 5+ minute burnout at our Bug-O-Rama event.  It set a record that few will ever beat. It was crazy!

The burnout contest replaced our Miss Bug-O-Rama contest.  Frankly,  more people (including wives and kids) liked the burnouts, except for the dirty old men!  :-)

who needs a line lock when you have a turbo available. My son Jacob doing his burnout at the last Drag Day running Outlaw Turbo in his street driven bug Loco Moco.

I took the bug on a 75 mile cruise last Saturday. Jake drove his Ghia.
