Lightweight CMS 4 lug drag wheels
«

I have been searching various ACVW "classified ad" websites for some lightweight aluminum wheels in the 4 x 130 pattern without success. What I did find was a potential source for new CMS wheels that appear to be similar to ERCO's. On one ACVW forum, it was even mentioned that CMS actually used to manufacture the wheels for ERCO. Can anyone in California comment on this supplier or their experience with the wheels? Here's the source:

Also found a 5.5" with good backspace (I have short axles):

Thank you!

Thanks for that tip neil68!
I have been indecisive on what to use for my nostalgic rebuild of the Pank dragster.
CMS/Erco it will be if there is no bad information popping up on this thread.

CMS does make the wheel for ERCO. They also make thier own line of wheel that are similar to the ERCO design but are not the same. You can only get the ERCO offset front wheels from ERCO, but just about any other wheel size through CMS. You can choose your wheel halves.

Neil another alternative are the Bogart wheels, very light ( 9 and 11#'s) and Rich will make them to what ever back space you want, quality stuff

Just got my CMS wheels today, so I'm updating my experience for this transaction. I went with the heavier 0.190" aluminum street/strip wheels (for extra strength) and they weighed in at 9 lb (~4 kg) each in the 6" width. These are the 4 x 130 pattern for my '68 Beetle. Walt was great to work with and we exchanged numerous emails, until we agreed on the width and backspace.

I'm still looking for some 3.5" wide aluminum 4-bolt wheels at a reasonable price. The steel 4.5" front Sprintstars are heavy...

Hi Richie,
Yes, the "bolt together" CMS wheels are a bit heavier, however, there is also the advantage of purchasing just "half" the wheel for future replacement, if damaged.
I believe they make a 0.125" aluminum "lightweight racing" wheel and this would be a welded wheel. My Beetle is driven pretty much every day (8 months of the year), so I went with the stronger wheel to avoid having to re-mount the stock wheels every time I go for a drive (the 0.125" being susceptible to damage on the street).
