1776cc mouse engine
- I built this engine in 2000, back when Gene Berg parts were the engine builders choice #1
- AS41 engine case, 0.50mm, decked, full flowed, deburred
- 69mm C/W crank, knife-edged, lightweight flywheel, Gene Berg 11/32" pins and nut, Gene Berg Equalizer, Kennedy Stage II + Gene Berg Super Street disc, balanced
- VW original rods, rebuilt and balanced
- 90.5 Cima/Mahle; Total Seal 2nd, valve pockets, balanced
- Heads built from new original castings, 40x36.2mm S/S valves, ported by Hannu Luoto / Virtauskansi Oy, short and tall matched & ported IDF/DRLA-manifolds. These are really nice, and they flow 174hp/13mm with small ports
- Gene Berg valvetrain: triple springs, titanium retainers, lash caps, valve locks, studs, 1.40:1 rockers and 80.000psi pushrods
- Engle K-10, Magnum straight cut gears
- Compression 9.8:1
- Gene Berg oil system: 30mm oil pump, full flow with teflon hoses, 3.5 qt. sump
- 2 x DRLA 45 carbs, streamlined aux vents, knife-edge throttle plates etc
- Step-cut merged header, 1 1/2" => 1 5/8" + 2" exhaust
- MSD distributor + 6AL + coil
- CB linkage
- CSP valve covers
- Alternator, doghouse shroud
- Electric fuel pump
This engine ran 13.48sec / 158.9km/h in a full-weight street car back in 2002 on a non-prepped airfield track, and later 15.22sec in a VW Type 2, driven to and from track. Should make about 150hp?
The engine has been sitting in a warm garage since 2006, and it has been turned regularly. The valves/seats should be touched, most likely lapping the valves is all that is needed.
Asking 4500 euro. Located in Helsinki, Finland.
