Has anyone narrowed the rear of a bug and kept the rear body to chassis mounts by moving the complete arch in or is this something that's just normally done to a tube frame set up ? pics please.

Bob Cook, of Cookers VW Restoration, has done what you're asking about. If you go on his site in the portfolio section, and look at "Doug's 62 Unlimited Street Sedan", you can get somewhat of an idea.
