You can make both , but center and front must get cut smaller and the thrust bearing must get cut into 3 pieces . i did this onece and works very nice

No Lee need to get one of them cut for flange.

The master plan is to get both done at the same time.

One with the Bugpark 82mm which will be a turbo motor and the other one is the Scat 88mm for the NSU.

Hi Martin.

I'm currently looking for a thrust conversion for my 90 x 101.6 motor.

It has the BMW bearings but a center main bronze thrust plate setup.

Martin T wants to use something different as the thrust play is on the large side.

What is this BMW thrust bearing like?

Cheers, Nick

Hi Nicholas

That's what I'm talking about that is in your photo.

Was trying to find out which is the best way to do it. As I have seen it done on the center like yours, or at the flywheel end, also both. If I remember the way Udo did his was to cut off the sides of a VW bearing and use them to make the thrust part with the BMW bearing in the center of them.

I would just like to know form the guys on here that has been running it for a time now, what is the best way to do it.

Before I start getting my cases machined.

Martin, I'm pretty sure Mike Lawless has done this with the Ghia and put it on his website about the car. Mike's write ups are always pretty straightforward and he'll tell you honestly if it works or not!

If you're not running a flanged crank, consider running the hardened steel thrust plates from a 2.1L wasserboxer. They mount at the #1 main (where the thrust belongs...) and fit into the existing groove in the main saddle for the thrust bearing. The only modification is machining a notch into the saddle for the tang of the thrust plate ( http://ultimateaircooled.com/engines/18921-bmw-bearing-conversion.html ). The part number is 025105635.
