The Cal-look Karmann project!

This is what I'm starting with, not much but the ideal candidate fo a pure 70ies coupé.
It has been subjected to some cruel welding bu the previous owner but it seems strong as it's still there 10 years later.

Plans include:

Changing the rear lights with clusters from a 60-67 model.  These will be welded in in a few weeks.
Nice solid color, probably orange!
Empi 8's, fake ones at the moment, these probably be blasted this weekend.
Fat biscuit interior in black vinyl, also for the next few weeks.
Almost no chrome at the exterior, with T-bars or maybe some buggy bars if I can make it work.
An 74 x 88 or 74 x 85.5 engine with an Engle 110 and 2 Solex 40PII carbs on original Empi manifolds.

Have you thought about putting buttons where the stitching intersects? If you use a contrasting color (body color), it can really look the tits

Hi Zach,

Seems like you know something about interiors, would you know where to get the plastic things that fit at the edges of the seats?

I tried to blast the 8-spokes this weekend, but that wasn't a real success.  Probably something with the blasting cabinet as it didn't remove any paint.
So I attacked one with paint stripper wich seemed to work pretty well, although it took a while.

Here are the results, I know it aren't the real deals but I'm on a budget!

Interiors is what I get to do every day for "work"

By "plastic things that fit at the edges of the seats" Im guessing that you are talking about the welting that borders the seats? Like the white part in this picture?



That is elementary work for any upholstery shop. You simply take plastic tubing 1/8" in diameter and wrap 1 3/8" of your favorite material around it, and sew it together with the seat fabric.

OK guys I need some help, today I ckeaned out the Solex PII-4 carbs that I bought.
There all fine but on one carb I'm missing two jets like in the pics.  They go in the sides of the carb body just under the air cleaner
If anyone has some ideas where to get some, or even better has some please let me know...

Help!! I really need a workshop, at the moment all of my cars are standing outside, including the 67 with IDA engine...
But at the moment it's really to cold and damp to motivate myself and work on the car

Hope to have some sort of a solution real soon!
