the only V8 beetle I would bother with would be this one
Does this car still exist?I remember a feature in a magazine ('80s),but that bug was white & there was also a v8-Notchback in it.
I believe it was a Salooncar-championship in the UK.
The (in)famous Bross Beetle. Built by Mick Hill, then raced by Doug Niven, bought by Geoff Halliday and track tested by me at Donington in 1981. Awesome memorable experience! The car was based on a Trojan F5000 chassis with 350 Chevy bolted up to a Hewland five-speed. Car was very successful in the Super Saloon series but the last I heard was that, due to the increasing value of period F5000 cars, its chassis was converted back to its original format and the car now 'exists' as a restored Trojan...
When it was white, it was sponsored by Autocavan, then the UK's leading VW performance shop (boy, how we all miss that place...) whose owner, Geoff Thomas, later owned a Lola T300 F5000 car, which he let me drive at Goodwood a couple of times. Big Chevy on open pipes a foot behind your head, four 48IDAs.... It was like being in heaven, and the closest thing to driving a period Formula One car I will ever get.
