I have some original empi 4 lug 4.5inch sprintstars, and wondered what the widest rear tyre i could use without it sticking out beyond the wing/fender?

185?

Hi Rob, with the 4.5s I wouldn't want to go too wide, 185 is really going to be the maximum you can fit on the rim, depending on make. I had 165 Avon Turbosteel tyres on the back of my Ghia on MWS 8-spokes (5.5") and the sidewall bulged nicely. Firestone F560 165s on my last set of 4.5 Sprintstars just looked skinny.

I have a friend runnig 185s on 4,5 sprintstars on the back of a 68 and it fits (I'll try to dig a picture) personally I don't like the look of such a wide tire on a narrow rim

interesting topic - slight hijack but what width tyres are people running on long axles with what width and offset wheels?
will add mine next time i have the cover off - 5.5" sprintstars but can't remember offset or tyre size Undecided
