I received a 78mm stroker crank yesterday. Packaging looked great no dings or dents, thank you USPS. But the box is covered in shipping tape and looks to have been passed around a lot. Only ID on the crank is on the pic below. Supposed to be an Empi as told to me. Any way to confirm from this number? Just looking for information, not pointing fingers. I like VW history.
Crank will be used in a rather tame 2007, being limited by the heads and cam and $$$$. [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

8181 is the EMPI part number for 78 stroke, 4340 forged crank.
Not sure about the -4. Type 4 center main???
0817?? Best before date???

I haven’t had a chance to closely inspect it yet. Looking for access to a bigger lathe than I have. Guess I’d better mic it soon. Just visually it’s a beautiful piece. Did confirm it’s an Empi build. Just looking for history and anyone’s experience with them.

Mic it out, if ok get it balanced with flywheel etc and be happy  Grin
For your engine spec it should be fine whenever it's 4130 or 4340 steel.
The power of a stroker VW engine, has to be experienced Grin Grin
