Thinking about arranging a caravan through some back roads from Simi Valley (So Cal) to Solvang event in Oct 2008.

I have some ideas, anybody interested?

I would be, though it would be a bit of a drive just to get there.  Grin

Me too, over 900 miles one way, not including the caravan.

Alright, but I'll warn you it will involve a bunch of driving.

Sheep and I want to drive his '66 and my '67 to the Solvang event this coming October (from Simi Valley, just northwest of Los Angeles). Instead of simply taking the freeway to get up there (US 101), we are planning a early morning drive on almost all two lane backroads. The longest and most strenuous stretch would be a 73 mile twisty, mountainous run over Highway 33 from Ojai to SR-166, near Maricopa CA. Hwy 33 takes you up into probably the most scenic area in Southern California (and away from the hustle and bustle!) and is completely "do-able" in any reliable VW, big motor or not.

I'm thinking if the cruise departed just before daybreak, we could make it to Solvang show by late morning.

Jim, that sounds like a great time, but as you know im up in the bay. We will have to meet up in solvang and have a beer or six. Grin The last time I drove up from LA I took hwy 101 and stopped off in solvang for some grub. I went to this little place that had brats, saurkraut, pickeled beets and this awesome Firestone double barrel ale. Ive gotta go back.

Well, I will keep it on my mental bulletin board.
