I bought Flat 4 Porsche Fuchs for my 1964. Beetle. I don't know how to convert it to 5x130. I am about to buy two pairs of adaptors from Machine7.

They are 2.5cm wide and my Fuchs are 5.5J in front and 6J in rear. I will also put adjusters to lower front of the car.

Question is are those adaptors too narrow for rear wheels, will they look like they are too much inside? Can I pass without narrowing the front beam?

I see that lot of people here run Porsche wheels so can you tell me about your experience, maybe some pictures? I find these very important in cars appearance, so I am worried about my decision...

You can use 5/130 drums from Socalmports on the rear, but they do not make a different bolt pattern, or blank drum for your front. So, either adapters or disc brakes on the front to get your 5/130 pattern.

Thanks and what about spacers, do I need them for rear of my car, how thick, 20mm?

What year is your car? If it's early with a pre-ball joint front end, your options will most likely be what Deano posted.

With short axle swing, you need a spacer.
The preferred choice is to convert to late 4 bolt brakes which are bigger.  Then use a 25mm spacer.

The drums you have now will work.  If you bolt on the adapters, they become that spacer.

Can you just tell me which company to use because I see now that Machine7 doesn't sell them, they told me in mail that reason is ˝poor quality˝. I can use Chirco, JC Whitney...?

in the old days? i think people used adapters (a lot), or redrilled drums.
and the real chiefs got themselves some 356 drums.

Yeah I know But sometimes I think I'd like something more "modern" :-D

in the old days? i think people used adapters (a lot), or redrilled drums.

I don't know if it is possible to redrill front drums...
I never found front 5x130 drums.
In my mind the only solutions are adapters or disks conversion... but I can easily be wrong...

People redrill 4x130 drums (keep one hole and make 4 more), not 5x205 because they are not thick enough. That's what I heard, but I find adapters better becasue I can always go back to 5x205...

Nope you can't. The 4x130 drums will only fit ball joint cars.

I understand you challenges OrangeCounty, the options are few for the link pin beam.
The best option is the drop spindles and a set of the stock disks with Porsche pattern you get over the counter.
While I bought this set up I never installed them, due to a couple of reasons. One being that I like the front end rather low and the drop spindles leave the suspension to soft, so the tires and fenders might hit. The spindles are also of a dubious engineering design that apparently didn't make it through the German Tüf test. This makes them illegal in Norway. The final blow (although the least important) is the fact that they place the wheel in center of the fenders, and thereby ruining a part of the vintage cal-look Wink

The much easier way of mounting the wheels is the adapters, but having held some of the ones you can get over the counter that was no solution either. In the end I designed my own and had them made in tool steel in a CNC machine. It offsets the wheel by 19mm and its the size is the exact same size as the drum, thereby making it virtually invisible. In the end we ended up making a small series of these... and they were baptized Hot Owl adapters.

JHU, those are AWESOME! Good job on fabricating your own way around something. Just went through something like this for one of my daily driver cars. But yours are better 'cause they're custom and home made.

For me, if you can find a set of Wheel-A-Adapt wheel adaptors, those are real good. The company was local here in SoCal, but I believe has gone under. I ran a set of those on my first bug, a 63' with a set of 14" Alloys, sat just right. Those Hot Owl adaptors are sure the ticket, steel and CNC made. Should be spot on, now can you get a set. But yes, adaptors.

In the eighties i used 356c brakes on my !961 bug, direct bolt up.I have since upgraded to cb brakes. I also have used these adapters, which are available. [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

One more question, I am about to order 2x205 to 2x130 adapters next week. I was wondering has anyone some cad drawings or something which can help me make my own adapters on CNC machine? Also I found a lot of shops in America selling them, but can't find shop in Europe which has these adapters... (because shipping costs twice as pair of them)
