HOLY GUACAMOLE! Casey, Jim, & Danny... your posts just freaked me out. I'd probably end up in jail based on my reaction(s) if any of those happened to me. Scary stuff.

On a good note though Danny, at least some of us have left over paint and don't need to drop our stuff of at a body shop. Grin BTW you better stock up on your base coat. It’s all over in January buddy.

Did some one say Uzi. Holly shit. Sounds like an episode from Irwindale a few years ago.

and on that topic....  leftover paint. I had about a quart of the mix this guy DeCoite did when he shot my car back in 1989, until just a few years ago, when my ex- cleaned the garage one day. About 6 months later, I found the can, lid laying on top, in the backyard, full of rain water. Mad?

Murderistic.

So all those chips you see on my car...  yes they piss me off.... trust me.

Someday I'll have to approach one of you pros about re-shooting the car in the same color.... not something I would ever have the balls to do.

Jim, sorry if you've already thought of this... but you can go to most automotive paint stores with your ashtray (or whatever else you can detach from your car) and have your exact paint hue color matched. When I bought my '67, the paint was oxidized and the car had nasty scratches, chips, and missing paint everywhere inside and out. At first, I was bummed. But I drove across town with my ashtray, after buffin' out the car. In ten minutes, they perfectly matched my car's paint color. Came home and for the next couple of days, I made all of those imperfections way less noticeable. Of course, I know they're there... but most people that saw the car when I bought it, thought I had it repainted. The pint of paint cost me $15. So I poured some in a tiny glass paint jar that came with a metal cap that I bought from my local hobby store for $1.50 along with a few different sized touch-up brushes.

Forgive me for de-railing the thread.

Casey, what happened at Irwindale that you're referring to?

Anything for Jim. I just got off the phone with the city of Simi Valley. They said they will allow you to "roll" on a maximum of 1 gal of automotive paint per year. As long as its not metallic blue. "Are you down for a color change"? I'm going to Home Depot today, I'll just p/u a few good rollers for ya. You get the news papers and duct tape. We'll be done before you know it. HAHAHAHAHA

Check this: Car show, nice flat black Notch with pinstriped murals except one is already being  scratched off by two kids and their parents watching.  "We just wanted to find out if they were decals or not" .F :<_?g Hell.

Fred, I heard about a shooting in the stands a year or two ago. Some street racers gone wild? Wasn't there.

Cool! Thank God for Casey and his good deed(s). There ya go, Jim! Just disregard my post and resign yourself to probably an entire month of color-sanding the roll marks out.

I would heavily recommend Betz Speed & Color for doing any matching. They're down in Orange (around the corner from BFY) though so it would be a haul for you.

it must be possible to do that as they use it on modern cars as well. but it may need a second clear layer...

Since we ARE discussing the paint on our Cal Look VWs, this should be safe. At any rate, here's where I went. They're in Long Beach and if you need any help getting stuff to and from their shop, just e-mail me and I'll be glad to help.

jim don't worry that old paint would need to be tintet anyway, SUN fade's color's , usually when I spot  something in, after the repair is finished, first I scotchbrite the whole panel to be painted with a WHITE scotchbrite, to ruff up area to be painted, JUST kill the shine for addhestion then for final sand repaired area with 600 grit, keep scatch's to small area. then start spraying color, only cover primered area. when area is covered start blending color alittle farther each coat till you cant see color change. then clearcoat the whole panel . spot repair 101,  simple huh!

I forgot one.... oh this is a goodie

1990 I was driving my '67 through a parking lot to grab a burger, a real classy lady in a prelude runs a stop sighn in lot, stuff'
s the H0nda's bumper in my driver's door, buckling it badly, ....my car had been painted for less than 6 or 7 months. She clambers out of her car, and with lit cigarette clenched in her mouth starts screaming at me for not seeing her and %&*#&%%#!!! and ^&((##!!!!. Amazingly, I kept my temper at bay and didn't rip her spine out. Anyway, I just gave her the look of death, and ask her to start exchanging insurance info...and then it gets worse.

She gets her paperwork from her car, and a pen and walks over to the roof of my '67 and starts WRITING, like my car is a fucking memo pad. I grabbed the pen and paper from her hand and said "do not write on my fucking car."

She obeyed.

I swear, there are people, then there are subhumans.

I had the same happen with a 1960 Beetle, back in 1998. Woman pulled out of a car park in her company car (still not worked out how a charity can have company cars!) onto the main road that I was driving along. She hit the front wing of the beetle just behind the front wheel, took out the door, rear quarter panel and rear wing, quarter panel damage distorted the heater channel and floorpan. She got out of her car and started shouting at me for notletting her pull out! If I had let her out, I'd have had to stop and reverse 50 or 60 feet up the road to a spot where she could have passed me! Angry
Still, the insurance payout got me the buggy that I swapped for my Ghia, which I swapped for my split bug, so it's not all bad! Cheesy
