Not yet, but getting closer.

I'm still dealing with the other house deal and putting fake hardwood in the old house and working a ton of over time. I barely have time to drink Shocked

My engine tin is getting sand blasted and powder coated this week, I picked up a few IDA goodies at Sacramento and Dan at Volks Academy is going to freshen up my heads and set up my spring heights. I'm still on the fence about having my lifter bores sleeved by Brothers. Other than that, all I need is time and pushrods.

1,300 square feet of wood laminate flooring. 57 boxes worth of the snap together stuff.

is it the glue down? Keep the windows open
We used the nail-down (only) stuff, had to buy the special nailer, man what a bitch it was learning to get the "feel" right.... smack it too hard and you'd split the wood, not hard enough and the cleat wouldn't seat fully in tongue. And when you hit your hand with the mallet it kind of hurts.

This is a floating floor, as my house is on a concrete slab. Kinda hard to nail down into concrete and too much work to put down sub floor or glue all this crap down, so I went with the snap together floating floor with the 3 mil padding. I really wanted bamboo, but again it gets nailed or glued down. I'm about half way done. Maybe I'll finish by the next Aufklarung reunion. Grin

I used that stuff in two rooms even though I swore I wouldn't go that route.  What sold me was it took us two hours to lay the whole floor in the new bedroom.  Altho, I might be driven to hammer tack myself in the temple if I had to do 1,300 sq ft!

My dog hates it already. He can't get any traction to chase the cats. It's like Scooby Doo  and Kristi Yamaguchi every time he gets up. I'm gonna get him some Totes Toasties.  Grin

Here are the detailed specs of the engine in question.

The engine will end up being a 2165cc type 1 mill. Starting with a seasoned Mexican AS-41 universal case that began it's life in my brother in laws (Sheep) guitar teachers car, originally built by Helmut Motors, Hayward, California. My little brother ended up with the car in the mid 90s and smoked the top end due to a vacuum leak. I sent off the case to Rimco to have it full flowed, bored for 94s, stroke clearanced to 88mm, shuffle pinned and inspected. I have completely smoothed out the entire inside of the case and did some porting ala Porsche to reduce windage. I still need to send it off to Brother's VW Machine to have my lifter bores sleeved with silicone bronze. FK cams are notoriously hard on lifter bores.

The crank for this project is a never used Bugpack nitrited 78mm VW journal 8 doweled crank I bought 10 years ago. My buddy Pete(Grinder Pete) Sibelle paid over $600 for it and I traded a large pizza and a twenty sack of weed for it along with the lightened, balanced and matched 13lb Bugpack flywheel and a Kennedy stage 2. Main bearings are mix of KS and Metal Leve and uses a split #3 main instead of the 1 piece so I can swap bearings with out pulling off the gears. Another benefit is the steel backing. All main bearing clearances are at .0028. Gland nut is a new Bugpack 36mm head chromoly made in USA nut. I got tired of waiting for the Berg's to have gland nuts in stock again. Hopefully this works out good.

Rods are new CB Performance 5.500 VW journal H-Beams with ARP 2000 bolts. Side clearance is on the high side at .020-.021, but according to most engine builder and the Bentley manual is still in tolerance. Bearings are Kolbensmidts. Radial bearing clearance is averaged at .0025" (.0024-.0026) I got them cheap from Jason Young on the CLF.

Cam being used is an Engle FK-45 dialed in straight up with CB 1.4 rockers. Cam is advertised at .561" lift with 1.4s and 263* @ .050 or 295* advertised duration. I'm expecting a strong power band from 2500 -7000. Gears are Magnum steel on steel bought from Gene Berg 13 years ago and never used. Lifters are NOS Weismann's coated by Heads Up Performance(SLR). Cam bearings are NOS Glyco double thrusts. I just ordered my Berg 80,000 PSI pushrods Friday.

Pistons are new Mahle 94 B's balanced to .001 grams by myself with Grant cast iron rings, end gaps are .014-.016. CB lightweight wrist pins and Teflon buttons are also being used. All were bought from Erik The Red last year for cheap. Deck height is .048" and compression will be 9.3:1 and will run on 91 octane.

Heads consist of hand ported CB large intake flange 044s with 42 x 37.5 valves with large modified wedge/d-ports by Heads Up Performance. Chambers are 57cc. Springs are Bugpack dual 4046s with Titanium retainers  and stainless valves. These heads came off Jim's low mileage 2054cc. Manifolds are match ported Scat Trak talls.

Exhaust will be a Berg 933s 1 5/8 header with dual quiet packs that I have on my car now. I hope to have a Berg 933HB merged 1 5/8 heater box header by this coming winter. 3 years in a true daily drivers with no heater and no defroster in the Pacific Northwest just plain sucks.

Carburetion is dual Weber 48 IDAs with 40 venturis set up by DRD (Darren Gurrolo) and Berg linkage. Fuel pump is a Holley Red and an Red regulator and 3/8 stainless line.

The tin will be a new OEM VW Brazil doghouse shroud with a added venturi ring and accompanying tin, German cylinder tin, new OEM valve covers and bails , new OEM pulley and breast tin. Performance Fab is powder coating all the tin in semi gloss black. this may change though. I may powder coat it myself. Fan is a Bugpack welded and balanced OEM unit, German alt. pulley with Porsche 356 pulley nut, Bosch 2 wire Alternator, CB Santana style pulley with JayCee broached nut round out the ancillaries.

Ignition is currently a MSD 6AL with a 7k chip, Taylor Spirol Core wires, NGK D7E8 plugs and a rebuilt Bosch 010 with a Pertronix Ignitor.

I have not decided on what breather system to use yet, I may build my own with a 1.5 quart minimum but I'm leaning towards the new CSP alternator stand unit. It's so purty.

For oiling, I have a Berg hard anodized and blueprinted 30mm o-ringed pump, Berg non relief full flow cover, NOS Oberg tattle tale filter. Coolers consist of a Mesa 72 plate with a fan, along with the doghouse cooler. A Berg 4 quart sump round out the oil system. Oil capacity will be close to 8 quarts total.

Gear box may be a Mike Collins (RIP) built up gear box from my other 67 or a Jeff Newcomb close ratio box with a 3.78, 2.06, 1.56 3rd and 1.12 4th and a 4.12 ring and pinion. The Collins box was built for me in 1995 and Mike called it my fairy tale box. He started with a low mileage 72 1/2 IRS type 3 case, converted it to swing, used a deburred 4.12 ring and pinion, Erco chromoly pinion nut, Erco side cover, 3.78 (so called Super Beetle) mainshaft with an 091 1st gear, Bugpack threaded Super Diff, welded 3rd and 4th synchro hubs, hand packed needle bearings (no cages), steel shift forks and Sway-A-Way short axles with contoured and polished spades. It's got 60,000 miles on it so I may send it down to Jeff for a freshen up and regear.

I'm hoping for 175-180+hp at the flywheel and maybe mid to high 12s on slicks or maybe mid 13s in street trim and still drive it work the required 2 miles everyday.
