when did 5.5's get so pricey? When i bought my set (4) for my ghia, 350.00, no one wanted them, back then...i guess the off set with easier fender clearance issues are making them more desirable??..dam...bill

thesamba is notorious for overinflated prices and the fuchs wheel is one of many things usually over priced. I would not call those wheels rare at all, but they are cool and desireable. Some people ask for rediculous amounts of money because they know someone will hand the cash over. I don't ever recall seeing a correctly refinished set for sale on thesamba. Anyone What was the asking price.

All of the prices for FUCHS lately has been stupid.  I sold complete sets of (2) 15 x 5.5 and (2) 15 x 6 early FUCHS a couple years back for $1100 and felt it was reasonable. The had been completely redone by Al REED with the polished face and lip and black background. The prices now are simply rediculous.  You can still find the wheels and still get them redone for half what the post LUKE posted is requesting.

I disagree with a lot of prices that are being thrown out there for what are, essentially, and literally, used parts.  Hurst shifters are going for stupid amounts of money these days.  It's one thing if they're NOS in the box, but a nice Hurst going used for $100 plus to me is kind of weak.  Not worth it to me to be "period correct."

I think $100 is totally fair for a quality shifter. If you don't, then just go to Berg's and buy one of theirs. Talk about sticker shock...

Yeah, in retrospect, Zach, I think $100 isn't terribly bad... though they were like $60 brand new.  I've just seen some guys marking them up to like $150 and $200, which I think is absurd.  I do realize something is only worth what someone pays for it, it's just a lot of parts are slipping farther and farther out of reach for me.  Lol. 

I wouldn't think that Hursts would be all that hard to find, considering how long they made them for (at least 20 years, last I could estimate, late '60s until mid to late '80s)?

To me...BERGS parts are worth every penny.  I've bought, owned, used and even sold some of my BERG parts and they performed for years.  Quality is not cheap and cheap crap is usually not quality. So, you get what you pay for. The problem today is CRAP is not cheap anymore.

Hursts aren't all that hard to find, but to get one for a decent price you just need to do some patient searching.  If you need to have one tomorrow, then you have to go on thesamba.com and pay the "Samba price".  Same thing with lots of other stuff.

Rick, I know the feeling.  I walked away from a 15x6 deep at the 03 Classic for $150.  It lay there all day until someone finaly bought it.  Boy I could kick myself now. 
Times have changed though.  While $3500 is pretty salty, these wheels are getting gobbled up by VW guys and the early 911 guys and $400 each for an unrestored 15x6 seems to be market value.  Add another $300 each to have them properly restored (stripped, anodized, painted)by Harvey Weidman (plus a 1 year lead time) and you are looking at another $1200.  Thats $2800 plus a year or more for resto. 

So, being devils advocate,  I would say that if you needed a set right away, $3000 or a little more, would be a reasonable cost.  This is of course assuming that they were "properly restored" which the wheels in question are not.   I'm not saying I like it...but that seems to be the market.

About the same time period, but at a HotVWs Drag Day, I walked away from a 15x4.5, only asking $300 which was the current market value. I think it sat there all day, too

Check.  Yes, I like the late look better.  No worries about the wheel deal; had a feeling that wasn't gonna go, judging from your eloquent commentary about said individual.

I may need a 2nd set of wheels, because I really like both polished and anodized looks, and I can't decide which to go with...  The old man within is screaming "LOW MAINTENANCE" but the kid likes the way the light reflects off the polished spokes.
