Quick update: No longer shredding belts - engine pulling like a train, unfortunately we have a few gearbox issues, seems that we have the gland nut needle bearing is picking up in the input shaft as we have a bit of a lack of synchros on most gears - although if you sit and idle for a while it will go in, pulling the engine tomorrow ( Not a popular choice as its my sons 8th Birthday !) if its the needle bearing then its a simple fix hopefully, failing that its a gearbox swap back to last seasons box for Ebi We leave weds and we will be ready !!

Ok - engine pulled and culprit found !! new cush lock disc - lasted 3 ish miles !! although its not its fault - its due to this secondhand keenedy stage 2 pressure plate which broke one of its springs - one was lodged in with the clutch plate and the other was floating around near the starter - luckily it hadnt got caught up in our new high torque starter!! So on the phone in the morning to find another clutch pressure and centre plate - hopefully we can get it out in time to fit on tuesday

Ok, not updated for a while, apologies, we've been very busy! After grenading the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel dowells just before EBI we were forced to take the Jägerbug with the trusty old 1914 engine to Belgium. The new gearbox stood up to 21 punishing passes and we even managed to better our previous years best times. Partly due to the longer gearing in the new box and the removal of the fanbelt The record now stands at 15.02 Hopefully a time we'll shatter when the new engine makes its debut at BugJam! So, to cut a very very long story short.... We've received the new 4 puck clutch and Kennedy stage 2 pressure plate from SSP (fantastic next day delivery service, thanks Barney ) The new lightened flywheel has also been supplied by SSP and has been fitted using the scat chromoly dowells, hopefully this lot should stay together this time! We've tightened the nut to as high a torque as we could get it on advice from Mr Webb amongst others over in Belgium The only problem we did experience in Belgium was a difficulty in 3rd gear selection. To sort this we've renewed the shift rod bush and the coupling.

I took it out for a test spin today and the gear shifting was much better and crisper. Hopefully it will stand up to the punishment of the new engine! When I arrived at Alex's he was deep into cutting and sorting out the new exhaust system. We received a prototype 2" stainless header and stinger from a company in the States but it's needed a bit of work to make fit. Here you can see Al tig welding it back together on the engine stand to ensure everthing lines up better As impressive as the "traffic cone" stinger looked it was decided that it was infact too large and would probably fatigue and snap off unless shortened, a hefty 6 inches were marked up and removed Out came the grinder! After working on it for several hours it's now a good fit that looks huge and impressively shiny hanging in place! Ladies and Gentlemen, we give you the new Jägerbug exhaust system!

Cheers Chris, was good to see you and yours too Hope you managed to get around ok with the sat nav issues et all Ok, once again ths was the sight in the Jagerbug garage on Friday Out with the old 1914 engine, 151 quarter mile passes and it's time to let it recover! in with the new, hopefully the clutch and flywheel will stand up to the job Once the engine was bolted into place, Alex got on with bolting the carbs etc back on whilst I 'adjusted' the rear valance to clear the new bigger exhaust Back together pretty quickly and despite a few 'flaming' issues all seems to be running correctly and very very loudly! fingers crossed the slicks arrive in time

OK Piston off, rod removed Plenty of bearing material around no 4 journal ! No 4 big end shell is toast Rod shows a bit of heat but measures up in tolerance so hopefully is ok However the bearing shell is in a very sorry state - some of it on the crank, lots of it in the sump !! So it looks like we are shopping for a new crank & a full set of engine bearings at least Plan for the time being - strip down engine fully and check it over - make sure no shrapnel has done any further damage remove gearbox from car and strip it down to sort out its selection 'issues' then get the car out and running on its new box with old engine (Again !!) in time for Vw action - at least we will have our new slicks to play with !! =D

Well at last a bit of good news - our slicks and wheels are here !! Rich collected them from the shippers last friday & i managed to get the slicks fitted this afternoon by shane welton =D Nice new shiny Convo Pros Quick pic of them on the car - they need a good clean yet and some better nut washers machining up but you get the picture HUGE thanks to Tony at Emu Express for sponsoring these - cannot thank him enough for his support - really looking forward to trying them out on the track !! =D

Like the new blingin' wheels and tyres Look the nads boys! Big shame about the motor getting mildly toasted at Bug Jam... still, not as bad as it could have been had that rod let go properly! Good to catch up with you guys at BJ - diggin' the Jaeger muttonchops matt

Hi Henri - really not sure why it let go, its weird as its not the last in line for lube as no 2 rod end is the last so you would expect problems there, it may be a duff bearing or the crank may already have had an issue with that journal - it was a used donated 82mm crank with a .50 grind already, we just measured it up and it appeared in tolerance so we polished the journals and used it ! I will post new pics once we get the bottom end apart and find out what sort of state the main and other rod bearings are in when I return from Spa
