my names monkey...i`m a hot rod artist from the UK...owned numerous hotrods in the past...my son recently passed his driving test and we bought him a car...he chose a `72 beetle running a 1300 tp....we got it running really well, the past owner seemed more intent on sticking shiny goodies on it rather than actually getting the best out of it...we swapped the empi 8s back to its original steel wheels with a coating of body colour on them , trim rings and original caps, pertonix on the motor and all that...heres the car

got as much out of it as we could then decided to go to a 1600 motor..went on the dreaded ebay , found loads , got outbid on loads...finally found a `nice` looking onethat we were assured was good and not seized...bid on it only to get the guy say sorry its seized...ended up buying it really cheap anyway as its gonna be stripped right down and opened up a bit anyway...heres the motor

while picking up the motor we noticed the guy had a beetle in the corner that he`d started a restoration on...the one the motor came from...he`d owned it from new back in `76...bought it in south africa and had all that time...moved back to the UK and the weather took its toll...he stripped it down resprayed most of it in black and gold and then gave up...his wife told him to get rid of it...we bought it and its home ready for a makeover...its a 1976 jeans beetle from south africa , one of only 1400 built that year...plans are to lower it, purple flake paint...roll cage, ally sheet  with rivets interior , 2 bucket seats....and see how much speed we can squeeze out of it....should be fun....
heres how it looks now

i`ll probably not be able to contribute  much than you already know apart from experiences while doing this project

Welcome to the Lounge, Surf Monkey ... and greetings from TEXAS!
Looks like a couple of great projects you have there!
Hope you enjoy and have fun with both of them.
This is a great place filled with great people; the resources are nearly endless ... lots of great stories and pictures, new and old, not to mention knowledge and experience beyond anything published.

Have fun!
