Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« on: May 26, 2009, 05:02:34 am »

Started my swap from EMPI 5 Spokes to alloys and ended up with a full blown update on my 67 Chop Top.  Right now I have the motor and trans out. Replacing the 1915 driver motor with my 2275 topped with ACE prepped IDAs.  Decided while I was changing backing plates and drums to add my alloys that I might as well have the trans gone through.  Couldn't just swap tranny's.  Had to to the whole detail thing while I was at it.

Some shots of the detailed trans housing. It will end up with 66 axles, polished and then shot peened. The R&P will be a 3.88. Will use a Super Beetle 1st & 2nd, a 1.48 third and still contemplating the 4th right now. Will have a super-diff, steel shift forks, new syncro's, chromoly pinion bearing retaining collar, contoured and detailed R&P to remove sharp edges and stress areas, aluminum side plates, HD throwout bearing shaft.

I have 26.5" tall 215/70 Pirelli's going on the rear.  Working to get my car at 70mph at around 3500 rpms. Playing with my gear ratio program to dial it in.

Doing some rear body mods while I am at it. Will posts shots of the 67 apron and deck lid when they are metal finished and mounted before paint.

That trans case looks sharp. Not going with a Berg 5? Make the gearing spacing easier.

Did not want to put a 5 speed in this car at this time. I am looking to a 901 PORSCHE box in the future with my own custom built rear IRS arms and a whole new pan for the car. Just wanted a good driver trans at this time.

That's exactly what I'm dreaming off. Building a thoroughly detailed chassis with an exotic 901 box Grin
Nice!
