More cool stuff, courtesy of Carl Nolen:
Back in the late 70's, I was doing research on building a vw drag car. I tried to attend as many races as I could to see the cars of the day and how everyone was doing things. Here are a few pics that have survived time from a NHRA divisonal in 1980:
This pic is of Scotty McManus:

This is the chop top of Portman & Wells. Awesome chop top. Very well done. Where is that car today? There also was a ghia twin to this car. Saw both of them at the bug-in in the late 80's:

The famous "Blue" car of Lyle Cherry. Maybe Ricky will tell of what happen to this car. I believe it is a block of metal sitting behind Lyle's shop:

And, also the famous Bear:

I look back at it and wonder why I did not take more photos. This was your basic cheap little instamatic camera at the time.
I had pics of Lyle's University VW, Inch Picher, Ligntning Bug, from a NHRA National event in the early 70's at Dallas International Motor Speedway, but lost them. Also, I had pics of Linda Vaughn. A major babe back in the day. But lost those too
