been a while -- been doing a little -- Note to self: SELF, welding you header together outside and in a high wind is not a bright thing to do if you want a nice/pretty weld

The engine going together

The engine in the car

The wiring

and Finally the engine is running

http://www.youtube.com/v/GHeSk9P3Ps0

Got a lot of tuning to do -- got to get it so that it will idle without die ing and then get it off the damn Jack stands where it has been for the last year and drive the damn thing

Went down to Shear Speed in Escondido and was planning on putting it on the dyno -- After chasing a oil leak and then doing a lot of baseline tuning Bill found a vacuum leak in the intake below the TB ------ CHIT CHIT CHIT ----- so didn't get it on the rollers, but the car is diffently driveable -- Rolled into it behind Billy's place and came onto the boost for the first time -- those poor 165's didn't stand a chance LOL -- Can You say -- Y E A H B U D D Y --

I drove it to the local car show/ cruise last night for a little while -- drove it down with the apron and rear lid off, just to show it off, -- -- Boy it was loud LOL -- Got the interest of all the V8 guys -- Especially since it is only a 1300 hee hee

Quote of the evening - "That 1300 won't even begin to spin THAT turbo up!!" LMAO

Re-welded the entire intake today and added a splash of TurboSmart blue to it -- seemed to help the idle

Got to get it back down to Bill Shear's to finish the tune

Another chitty day at the dyno -- for some reason the pushrod tubes on the 1-2 started puking BAD -- Billy said "we can work through this" -- so we throw it onto the dyno and start making a few pulls each time adding more rpm and more fuel (it was a little lean LOL) and got it up to about 4500 rpm and 12-13 lbs boost and massaging the VE table to keep it "right" and on the last pull blew out a exhaust gasket on #1 cylinder -- -- CHIT CHIT CHIT CHIT -- -- -- Billy is thinking that the engine is growing so much that it is torquing the flanges and causing it to leak/blow out -- final results well over 300 HP and a few more to find as it gets fine tuned -- Bill thought we could of had it dialed-in within another hour if .. ... ....

As Always Bill at SHEAR SPEED Escondido CA is the man -- The Mad Tuner LMAO -- Next time I'll bring the 24 pack so we don't run out of Beer

Well, The gas tank was almost empty from Nick's and tooling around a little here -- so went to the E85 store and bought 15 gallons at $3.53/gallon -- spent about 5-10 minutes redoing the last program I had for the car that was starting to get dialed in and basically added 40% more fuel to it. and then.. .. .. .. ...

Diffidently too fat and probably need more timing as it was feeling lazy -- but it is a starting point........

Well there was a car show this weekend just around the corner from me at the Regional Park and my friend with the Allstate (Henry J) was entered in it -- So I thought I'd drive the Ultra Fat tuned Ovalholio over to support him. My piece drove real nice considering just how really fat it is tuned right now.

Now, let me say that there were some ultra cool rides there -- and here I am driving a Mega Pigged out primered Oval with greasy hand prints all over it -- and My Buddy just had to be parked all the way to the back under a tree...So I drove through the whole show idling with an occasional burp to keep it from totally loading up -- I get parked next to Jerry and no sooner than I shut the thing off, there must of been 10 guys right there wanting to see the engine ... .. I'm going HUH?Huh and I go Why??? One guy pops off and says, "Hell, Half the people at the show eyes are burning from the alcohol fumes coming off the exhaust." So I'm busting up and pop the hood -- -- -- One guy in the back says .. .." God Damn VW's ... I've got a 10 second car and everytime I race one of them I get my ass handed to me!!!" I'm LMAO. And I say it is just a stocker with a turbo on it. and he says, "Yeah, Right, and you can Bite Me Too. " -- -- Good Times

Been working toooooo much -- which is good --- and not doing too much on the Oval -- which is bad --- I had a friend do some work on the car for me, new clutch cable, reworked all the pedal assembly, put in 28 mm torsion bars, some killer RLR shocks (those last two things seemed to help the tire shake a lot, -- probably gonna have to break down and do a cage in the car) -- but still can't get the damn thing to tune worth a chit -- had a guy over and we switched the injectors between the 60# and 160# ones I had about 6 times and still no luck -- seemed like the 60# ones just were not firing correctly and the 160# ones wouldn't fire at a fast/small enough rate when in batch fire mode and would start fluttering at idle and drownding the engine --- --- SOOOO -- Gonna work on the Ovalholio tomorrow -- slowly checking things off that could be screwing with me -- tomorrow, First changing the oil, then new KILLER plug wires (at least they almost killed me paying this much for a set of wires LMAO) and a NEW set of 100# injectors that I picked up this week ---

They had some cool plugs that change the EV-6 (Huh? not sure on this number) plugs to EV-1's which I had on my car. that was one of the reasons I didn't want to change to a newer style of injectors was I was going to have to change the plugs on my harness. Problem solved.

Hey Fiatdude, just clocked this post - looking good! Those n/a pistons you are running with deep valve pockets - how thick is the crown at its thinnest point? Looks like there's not much of a heat dam there for turbo use and high boost. Just a thought...

Cool. Just out of interest, how come they needed such deep valve pockets with a low Cr? A customer's 4" motor I am building at the mo had JE pistons with a dish machined in the top to drop cr. Even just a 0.060" deep dish made the crown too thin in critical places for turbo use. I would be interested to know your crown thickness as the JE pistons you are using may well be thicker than his. cheers

Yo dude!

Get you`re oval finished and drive her hard before you start looking at other cars. Noticed your fuel problems. Did you contact Hirsch and if so what did they have to say to their defence?

Lets see some pictures of your sleeper!

Hey BB --

Man when this car is running, It is making some HP and it is just totally cool how it HAULS AZZ. But those times are just not often enough, and it is just because of weird little things -- the gremlins -- I never thought it would take me so long to get this thing sorted out. This thing has been 'running' for almost a year and it still isn't really RUNNING. I've fixxed one thing and then that fix has cause two things to screw up -- I try to laugh about this chit but I always almost end up crying LOL

I contacted Hirsch -- "We have never had this Happen before" -- so no help from their end -- Tried to have the coating removed-- the chemicals would not touch/remove the coating --- but as soon as the coating was dry again, you could see the powder coming off the sides in the tank -- go figure.... I have bought another tank, but I'm really flustrated with this whole thing right now so haven't been doing anything except walking by the car and staring at it.

Think I'll forget about for the car and its problems for a while and do a couple of house projects and then maybe come back to this in a couple of weeks.

And then there is a vacation I've got scheduled in a couple of weeks where the wife and I are going to visit London, Paris and Rome for 2 weeks...... maybe after that I'll have my head back into the game LOL

Here's pictures of how this chit is spread around my garage today

Here is my old and "new" tanks -- after I got home I noticed the old tank looks about the same on the inside and the out --- could get it cleaned ans coated -- wait, I just went through that LOL

Here is my new RLR 6 point roll bar that I just got and need to get it installed into the car

This thing is such a sleeper it is snoring LMAO -- -- Stay warm -- did I mention I'm barefoot and wearing shorts and a t-shirt today LOL

You guys are the best -- Harold

OOPS just noticed your post Torque

Heres a Picture of the piston --- can't remember the exact measurment of the thickness of the piston -- but they were cast with the knowledge that they were going to be used in a turbo setting and have valve reliefs cut into them and so it was still a lot of material left. This picture you see is as the pistons came for JE, they took all the specs I had and produced the exact piston I needed. We had to do very little to them once we recieved them

This next picture shows how JE recommended that the rings be moved down because of the boost application
