thanks for the report, very informative and fun to read! Cool

I remember when Nico tried this engine in the Muppet, he looked really scared after the first pass... Wink Cheesy

When he changed back to a N/A engine I was thinking they gave up too early. It's good to see people working on a really unusual setup. It sure will need a lot of work to run properly, but I think it's something very special to do it in a way nobody has done before.

Anyway, we are ready for Bitburg so we met our objective.

Due to the rain (California deaming...), we only manage 2 passes on saturday.
But with the 3.000-5.000 rpm powerband and the small tires (they're 24in currently - switching to 26in this winter), the car maxes out at the 1/8th mile mark  Shocked
With the car coasting to the end, the times are nothing to be proud of (best of 13.4 I believe).
But most important, the car goes super straight and Pat feels confident with it (would be a shame at those speeds  Grin )

On saturday night, we meet a nice german gentleman who is also very much into Megasquirt, and we try to sort out a few problems we still have (no Lambda reading on Megasquirt, different code versions between the ECU and the tuning software, etc...).

But while doing so, we manage to screw the base settings, and it takes us 2 passes on sunday morning to correct this.

On the 3rd pass, the compressor pulley bolts shear during the 3rd gear burnout, so that's the end of our racing. It starts to rain again anyway, so we leave the place, eat our 3rd Burger King of the Week-End and head home.

Plans for the winter:
- redo compressor pulley
- fine tune fuel map
- switch to wasted spark ignition
- add water injection to reduce intake temps
- pass the 200hp mark (hopefully) and do some real 1/4 mile times


No I'm off to bed - I really need some sleep!!!

Great report on the weekend yvre, and nice shot of your butt too  Wink

I have had more than a few disheartening weekends like that, but each time I get a setback the car has got a little better. And the times its run with the shut downs show the potential Pat!

It looks a great bug and can't wait to see it after a winters work, sure its going to kick ass next year.

Please keep us updated!

This is one of the few types of VW set ups that could actually look good on a front engined dragster!  Shocked

What's the weight of the car no driver?
Maybe you should try a STOCK gearing with that amount of torque,or just borrow Dam's gearbox  Wink Wink.
There's still 1 event coming to test the car,31oct go to AVONPARK raceway Grin Grin

How about this Swedish one.


...and this rear engined dragster will run with a Supercharger, soon to be on top of it too. Same engine and setup but with a Autorotor and Hilborn.
Therefore I am following this thread with extra interest. I really like it! Well done!

No idea on the weight, but it's -very- light...



I have the same feeling with the gearbox. But maybe we should try to extend the powerband first.
