Unfortunately this is not a starry sky on a warm summernight, but the underside of the dashboard. It seems somebody used it as a hard target for his machine gun... Huh The firewall looks the same...



I picked up the first batch of parts to go into the body.

Not too much progress at the moment, I'm removing undercoat, glue and dirt of the past 57 years... Undecided

I couldn't believe my eyes when I started to remove the glue at the bulkhead.





They covered the ZAR sign with several layers of glue and carpet... Shocked

Today I removed the inner part of the bulkhead.



The heater channels have been replaced in the 70s, there's not much left... They have to go anyway as they are the wrong type



I cut the new bulkhead in three pieces, I'll only use the inner part. This stuff is really cheap, but it comes in terrible quality...

It shows the position of the lever to the valve of the gas-tank. "Zu" (=closed), "Auf" (=open) or "Reserve"  Wink

Yesterday I got a call from the former owner of the car, he owned it between 1974 and 1984. He told me that he's happy that the car is still around, and that he'll send me some pictures of how the car looked like when he owned it. This is what I got today Shocked Shocked Shocked

First the car was painted white and had Zenith carbs and a "Sauer und Sohn" exhaust on it.







Then the car was painted brown. Here's a pic with the proud owner himself:

The engine was updated with the Weber carbs shown in the first posts. The pointless Bosch ignition and the external oil pump are the same as today.



I was absolutely blown away when I first saw these pictures. Remember this car was built in Germany in 1974!

Very special thanks to Michael Spindel who was kind enough to open his photo album and send me the pictures of his car!

Unfortunately the late apron and decklid weren't the only "updates". They welded up the semaphores for example... Embarrassed

Well, I hope you won't be too disappointed when I tell you that I have slightly other plans for the car...  Wink Grin

I got the '52 from a very good friend who died 2 years ago at the age of only 40! I know he wanted to paint the car the same colour as my recently sold '53 ragtop, so that's exactly what I'll do. I'll kinda build my '53 again, this time with a '52 body shell. Here are two pics of my old '53, so you can get an idea.

I liked that '53, someone got a good buy there. The '52 is in good hands, I'm sure your friend would be happy with the plans for the car.  Cool

One question though, can you get your supersized transcontinental beer crate in the back of a Bug?

Here's a quick update. I welded in the bottom of the left B-pillar.





Last weekend I picked up a pair of doors. They came off an oval, I'll have to modify them to meet split specs. They are not perfect but they have never been welded and the hinges look still good, at least for 50+ yrs old doors.

The right door fits good so far, the left door... not! Undecided
