gear ratios
«

What would be best for a street car in 5 speed format (top gear only)? I have a 69 ghia with 2160 on IDAs, low compression (8.
running IDAs putting out 175 BHP, should I go for 4 close (for the strip) and really tall 5th like 082 or 089? for cruisin, or will these be too tall, particularly with a 3.88 R&P and give me cooling problems?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

with the slippery body of ghia I don't see a problem with a lo-o-o-ng final drive

well, a stock late ghia has a 0,88 4th with the 3,875 final drive, so I guess the Wolfsburg engineers did their homework back then

don´t you mean 3.875 R/P and 0.93 ? never heard of 3.875 and 0.89 in a std. box

If thats the case 082 or 089 should be OK? Now to show how clueless I am I take it the 082 is the longest gear, so maybe the 089 is best, i.e in the middle?!

late Ghias had 3,875 r/p and 0,88 or 0,89 4th, beetles did have the 0,93 4th as you say

What gearbox code is that ?
I have 2 AO gearboxes, which apparently should have 3.88 and 0.93... but they both have 4.12 and 0.93 - anyone else experienced this ?

Cool topic
I was thinkin about fitting a Berg5 in my 70's Looker project so I would love to know some more details on this conversion
I also want nice close ratios from 1 to 4 and a nice tall 5th as you put it as I plan on cruzin it to ALOT of shows
any advice
So far I have a Berg5 shifter handle

I think that an AN 'box does have the 3,875+0,89
