sat in the van in traffic today and my mind was elsewhere ( not unusual   Roll Eyes ) and was thinking about a TV show I saw last night about the world record attempt by a steam powered car.

They had shipped the car out to the us and the temperature was way to hot for the car to run.

As a solution they packed the car with dry ice to cool it down to be able to make a run.

It got me thinking about cooling the fuel not just the charge ( ie intercooler) in an effort to get a denser charge on a turbo engine.

Has it been done or am I way off track here as usual

I was daydreaming on my way home about a new front yard at my place, eating po' boy sandwiches on the waterfront in New Orleans and the possibilities of an "active combustion chamber"

wopers got one, tried it with and with out, didnt make the car go any faster, but i did have some ice left over for the Gin & Tonic later in the evening......bonus!

Fuel temp makes a lot of difference. That is why in F1 there is a minimum temp that the fuel can be stored at, to prevent people getting silly with chilling it and getting an unfair advantage. Cooler fuel is denser, thus has a higher energy density/l. Dont think it would be practical to cool it in the car though.

It has to help,but most sanctioning bodies make it illegal Shocked,particularly in drag racing,if its worth the effort in what we are trying to achieve,well theres only one way you are going to find out Ron,try it Smiley
