Now, this is something I would love to own. I just don't know how to get it home!

http://cgi.ebay.com/OCIR-Dragstrip-sign-on-side-of-I-5-freeway-original_W0QQitemZ120497708493QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_SM_Fan_Shop?hash=item1c0e391dcd

Any estimates on how much this sign will go for?

not only how would you get it home, but where would you put it?  It's too big for the average garage.  no doubt it would be kool to own.

Just give it to our own Randy... it would go rather nicely with his garage decor.

Well if you guys are gonna "give" it to me, I will gladly display it in my garage. It would fit fine and it would stay in O.C., right next to the famous Whittier blvd. cruise/dragstrip.

3,500 starting bid leaves it to those with plenty of disposable income..................
reminds me of the old Ascot park sign I have sashed away.........another piece of so cal
history.

Tony, the old Carlsbad Raceway center two signs went for a mere $10,000 for the pair. The "Snake" wrote the check for those... I think this sign could easily go for that. If it wasn't so GD long.

Deano,
I know of the old Baylands (Fremont drag strip) sign a friend has, I tried but
he wouldn't part with it.  I guess someday it will pay for a year of college for his kid?

Yep! Hence why I suggested your venue for that great piece of So Cal memory. Oh well... hopefully, it stays in Orange County where it belongs.

Im sure it will stay where it belongs in OC but my hunch is it wont be a VW guy...........shame.

However, it could sit above a nice collection of old racers....... i can see the photo shoot now !  Grin

I agree, it should sit above non-VW racers and stay in Orange County.

Deano, get HotVW's to buy it, that would be cool, but then where would you put it? Or even a local VW cliub. Wink We can't let that sign go to just anybody.  Sad

Looking at the auction that just ended, the sign did not make its reserve, which is a surprise. I do not think the "players" were aware of it sale due to the way it was listed. Hard to tell if it will go back on e-bay and try it again, or ?

How about opening a food place with a vintage drag race theme in the businesses area where the track used to be... this sign would be the perfect name sign for that place...

If the economy wasn't so weird, I'd say yes to that. Pretty cool idea, Jon.

Isn't the saying "build it and they will come" valid any more?
If it helps I will try to eat there every second year...   Tongue

Heck, if they build it in Orange County, I'll eat there at least once a week. The saying still rings true... it's just finding someone willing to do it, locally.
