ive been reading mark herberts "building a fast and reliable engine" over on the other looker forum.its all very interesting and informative.the thing that i took note of was that he preferred 48 dellortos instead of idas for his build up of the street motors.in this day of the ida is everything why pick the dells? do they set up better for road use? many thanks

Better driveability, more adjustable.

"Tri-Jet" just sounds cooler.

IDA's are nice, but Dells are Under rated IMO.  IDA's have the "look" for Cal-look.  All the fast guys run them, so they must be the shiz, right??   Roll Eyes Wink

IDA's are cool but overhyped i think,I have ran dells(48's) with no problems and ran with the best cars with iDA's.

I switched to IDA's when the dells came less available

Maybe iitīs 5 progression circuits on DRLAs against 2 or 3 on IDAs (plus extra hi-speed enrichment on TriJets)? I purchased one of last new old stock sets from Dellorto UK few years ago.

They donīt look as impressive as IDAs, though...

When the original version of my motor was put together the advice from a guy in the 'States who knew his stuff and the guy over here who built my motor was to use 48 DRLAs and I ran them for 6 years. With a little more work the IDAs pretty much run the same so far as I can tell but the Dells are a good carb and I think pick up better in some instances when cruising about.

My 2007cc motor has 48 Dells, and having run it down the track a few times but never driven it on the street, I can say that they certainly work! The 2276 IDA motor ran 12.09 best, the 2007 Dell motor ran 12.50 in the same car with me babying it because at the time I'd only borrowed it... Cheesy It felt smoother to drive around the pits however.
