Who?
In January 2010 Niels Timmerman and Kobus Cantraine will launch a new aircooled VW magazine. A European publication called ‘AirMighty Megascene’ and it will be printed quarterly.
The lead language is English but the stories will be translated into German and French. Three major languages inside one publication, it will be an all European magazine!

What...
AirMighty Megascene will be an exclusive high end magazine, a quarterly print on thick high quality paper with a glossy finish. It will be a magazine that you want to collect and we hope to be an addition to the VW scene in general. We in no way want to be a competitor to the already existing media, we want it to be an extra, something that people will want to get on top of their usual monthly favourite aircooled magazines.

AirMighty Megascene magazines will feature News, Tech-Tips, Columns written by celebrities of the VW scene, Show Reports and Car Features. We are mainly focusing on European subjects but we will also bring you stories from the USA, Japan and Australia!

The Team
We have associated ourselves with reputable companies, famous photographers, writers and editors. With these connections we will be able to bring you the latest developments and news from all over the world. We are a European publication using global input.

The AirMighty writing team consists of Niels Timmerman (NL) and Kobus Cantraine (B) flanked by Georg Otto (D) and Yves Maertens (B). Georg and Yves will take care of the German and French texts. All of them have been into the aircooled VW scene for many years and will now share their experiences and knowledge with you inside the ‘AirMighty Megascene’!

How to get it!
Subscriptions will be available in ouw web shop. You will be able to find the magazine at some of the major aftermarket aircooled parts suppliers around the world plus of course thru their distributors and your local VW shop in Europe.

I think it´s awesome that someone is taking the plunge and going for a real hi-quality vw mag. This would never be viable in a big scale so I´m glad it will be published only quarterly.

I don't agree there are volksworld and ultra both are difficult to get.
Then you have a few german magazines that don't cut it for me anymore because of all the watercooled stuff.


I am curious to see what Niels and Kobus come up with but I am sure it will be good.

I have a subscription to rodders journal so know exactly what it's like,

It's an exclusive high end quarterly magasine (isn't that enough similarities?)

Why not strive to be the best it can be by already saying you don't expect it be to be up to the standards of rodders journal you seem to be accepting mediocrity?

Having seen Niels great eye for detail in his photography i think this is shaping up to be an UBER cool VW publication, I for one will be getting a copy!

I think it´s going to be a good one!
The mixture of cars will be great when Niels and Kobus take care of it (Callook, Resto, Drag...)
When you take a look at Niels website you can see in the gallery that he really takes part on the major events in europe.
So I think that he has a good survey of what´s hot or not.

I´m lookin´forward for the first issue and for sure...I will have a look at it!

If it's in a Rodders Journal style, it will really stand out. RJ's photography is really high end studio stuff. Publishing a mag is a labor of love, it's an expensive venture and the market is small. I wish them alot of luck. I wonder if they will be selling subscriptions or if they will only be selling through distributors.

Looks very cool. It takes a lot of hard work to get a magazine off the ground, well done to all involved.

While VolksWorld and Ultra are both great magazines, with different styles, AirMighty should bring a fresh, more European focused perspective to the shelf. I hope, and suspect, we'll get to see more from the shows on mainland Europe, including the smaller meetings?

Interesting that this magazine will be printed sheet fed and not web off-set (single sheet instead of rolls of paper).

I wasn't going to say that, but you get the idea. You can get awesome quality control with sheet fed. Web off-set is super high speed, as they chase the color and registration on the fly... if at all.

Ive been asking / wanting a VW rodders journal type magazine for years, so hopefully these guys will pull it off and succeed.

Yes, I DO think that would be rather foolish. But seeing unfinished/painted or rusted out piles in magazines is even more foolish. Somebody needs to seriously step up to the plate and feature cars that are actually finished. I don't care if they're Class 11, or 5 offroad ones, sand rails, full race cars, stockers, Cal Look, whatever.

I realize that a magazine has a very tough job and they must try to cater to a wide and varying audience, but c'mon... many of the cars that end up getting printed have zero business at a car show, much less in a mag. Unless it's all a joke. Then, I'd understand.

 

I guess it's because I grew up when I did; meaning that when we attended a car show, we didn't see any unfinished or primered cars in the events. They were in the parking lot where they belonged. Same went for cars that were campaigning to get in to clubs, whether they were VW clubs or not. Somewhere between then and now, people became lazy, or lost respect, or simply gave up on caring... I don't care and don't want to know. What I DO know is that a Rodder's Journal or Surfer's Journal layout for air cooled VWs would be very well received. Something a lot more classy than what's out there. And for the love of God, PLEASE proof read the articles. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar are paramount concerns if one is going to publish a quality magazine like what we're discussing.

Just my 2¢ and worthless observation, that's all.

The difference in opinion on what makes a "finished" car differs greatly. Some people have told me that a car isn´t finished unless it has nice shiny paint.

I know which one I'd like to see in a mag.

As for grammar and punctuation, I agree with you. I think the first issue is far from perfect from that point of view, but I'm 100% sure it will get much better with time. (FYI, Im the one who did the french translation).

Sheesh, scary and loaded question. But I can answer that; In person, I'd rather see a ratty car with the right 'tude. Because to me, Cal Look VWs were originally conceived as daily drivers with a run-what-ya-brung vibe. But regarding your same question applied to a magazine, I'd rather see finished cars, no matter what style. That way, everyone can enjoy them. I may not personally like it, but at least the owners can enjoy the pride and hard work that went into their cars for others to see/appreciate in printed form.

Very nice to hear, Yvre. I won't go into detail, but it's been a pet peeve of mine since I was old enough to read and write. I'll leave it at that.
