looking at changing my pro drag for more cruiser friendly ratios in a pro street box.what are you guys running? there was a thread on here about it before but cant find it.could someone put up the link.thanks in advance barry.

I got a Berg 5 speed... problem solved.

Here's a gear ratio calculator I wrote in MS-Excel, I hope it helps.

Can't go wrong with a 4.12 box and stock ratios... 3.78, 2.06, 1.26, .89. If you want something a bit tighter go for the 4.37

hello;
i ve got a prostreet plus with standard ratios and a 4.12 r/p
I dont know what ratio the 4 th gear is ( i think its the stock ? ),
but this is good for cruising, and the car still feels fast in 3rd and 4th,
i dont know what ET you can un with these ratios, but in racing, i dont use 4th.
my best ET was 14.3, but the driver still needs some seat time Smiley
i should be able to run 13.5's (i hope)  Smiley

on the rancho website theres an option of having a 3.78 1st for extra cost.so whats the ratio for 1st if you decide not to take the option?

A 3.78:1 first gear is part of the "Plus" option.  It isn't to give you a different ratio, it's for strength.  This 9 tooth first gear is vastly stronger than the earlier 10 tooth first gear.  The weak gear is 3.80:1.

Just change 3/4 to 1.48 and 1.04.  It still will be fast and have much longer legs.

I'm transmission illiterate here, so forgive me.....but I am curious:  I put a 9 tooth SB main shaft in my trans I had built.  Is this part of the 9tooth first gear, or something totally different??

There's an early 10 tooth weak mainshaft and a late 9 tooth strong mainshaft. 
German made gearboxes prior to 72 all got the weak 10 tooth mainshaft.  After 72 they all got the stronger 9 tooth mainshaft.  By all, I mean swing axle, IRS, Ghia, Thing, Type 3, Fridolin, etc.

  3.88 R/P  Weddle mainshaft I think it's 3.75 2.04 and my third is 1.31 and .89 fourth

 good for 12.50 at 106 using third gear in 1/4

  used to be 4.12 R/P 3.78  2.06  1.26  .82

  Hey Barry,

  Trans is mounted solid, nose, mid and rear. Shock towers and frame horns are tied with welded in truss bar setup.

   Engine is 2386 FK10 44 x 37.5 good size ports 11.0 to 1  IDA's 42 chokes 1 3/4 header.

9 tooth mainshafts were an independent change from the R&P.  Same goes for the SSC case.  I have seen SSC 4.12 Gearboxes with an AH code and a 9 tooth mainshaft from 72, then I've seen DSC AT 3.88s from 73.  I've seen AV Thing gearboxes with 4.12 R&Ps and 9 tooth mainshafts.  I have an AM code SSC which is a 4.37 R&P and a 9 tooth mainshaft.  I also have a 4.62 R&P in a SSC case and 9 tooth mainshaft.
So, every combination you can think of, has been made.
But most SSCs you will find in the USA are AT code with 3.88s.  The other combinations are somewhat obscure since VWoA never imported many versions of Beetles.  For example, 1300cc Super Beetles weren't imported, so not many AM code gearboxes are around.  In the 80s and 90s, the gearbox rebuilders were importing containers of gearboxes from Europe, so lots of these weird combinations exist here.  Just last week, a guy on the Samba described his odd gearbox that turned out to be a swing axle trans built in 1979.  Don't forget Mexico.  I've seen Brazilian made gearboxes from Mexican Beetles in the pile of cores at Rancho.  I've been told that enterprising persons scour Mexico buying up the cores there and then bring them up to California.  Then, I have met Mexicans who regularly go up to California to buy up cores to take into Mexico.

I'm looking for a new gearbow for my 67 street/race car.
2054cc +/- 175HP, 205/70 15 tires (maybe slicks next year.)

What can I expect from these ratios and parts?
Rhinocase, Weddle 1+2 and Geneberg 3+4 ,
1=3.75 2=2.25 3=1.52 4=1.15 + spool + Finnish-axles etc. 3.88 R/P = VW-Germany.
