Here are some picture of the engine that i build right now . Limbach german crank with porsche style rods from limbach. This is the strongest you can make and still get with a little luck . a used one is more expensive than a new chinese but worth the money

The heads are my pro street with 40x35 valves and porting up to 160 hp. The ceramic coating on chamber and exaust protects the heads from heat . Those heads have a nice casting and so you get a good cooling . That coating is not cheap but worth every euro

good used 90,5 mahle pistons and valves also got the ceramic coating for protection . Other parts are a set of my 94 gramm lifters, pauter cam , and a nice used AS 41 case linebored . So the engine is strong enough for Rallye racing . I had good results in the mid 90's on the 2,0 ltr Käfer cup engines

Long block is ready . the small schadeck pump is good for this engine as it only makes 6800 rpm .

If I remember well : to have a FIA official passport the engine must be 1.6 liters with 44IDF (it has to be -to the maximum- the same as the Salzburg's rally Beetles, since Salzburg VW-Porsche made the registeration to the FIA back then). Of course if the owner will run rallys with 'open classes' or outside of the FIA classic rally series he doesn't have to stick to the FIA rules.

Great! Air filters are perfect. Would look even better with a generator but I guess the alternator is a wise choice for rally-racing, if it's planned to use additional lights, a map reader and a tripmaster.
