Looking for suggestions beyond the Engle 110.
The engine is going in a split window bus, reduction boxes removed.
Torque is what I am after. I'll be limiting revs to 5400 using a Bosch rev limiting rotor.
I plan on using 35 x 32 SS valves with mild P&P. I also have a pair of 40 x 35.5's Icould use...
Dellorto 36's or Kadrons are in the plans and am open to CR recommendations.

I believe the stock valve heads would be optimized about .500 or 12mm lift.
I've been looking at the VZ 14 and 15 cams but have never used one so have no real world experience to go on here.
I used a CB 2280 with a stock carb in my boy's 1600 and was surprised how nicely it runs. Unfortunately it turned too cold too soon to get it further than a couple of K's this past fall.

Any help, suggestions or recommendations will be welcomed. Thanx in advance...

i had a similar 1776 with a W120 with 101hp and 160nm torque @ 4800rpm.

9:1 C/R
40x35.5 044 heads
36's webers

Could drive all day long in 2-3nd gear, torquemeister Wink

the cam i got,  which is a revamped (or tweaked) whichever term is suitable
version of the engle w110

mine will be on a  1679cc

with emphasis on mid range grunt ( for a heavy 1979 brazilian issue beetle) with a/c

havnt had the chance to try it (since im still in the process of finishing up the motor) 
still ordering the rest of the parts

cam spec is

.430" lift , 243* @ 0.050 on 107 LC

Engle 100 with 1.25's or FK65 with 1.4's, 36 Dells. I had a 1776 in my old Fastback with the FK65, torque curve was flat as a table Smiley

I know you were asking for suggestions beyond a 110, but here is my experience w/ a 110 earlier this year. 78 x 90.5, Engle 110 stock valve ported heads by Jeff Denham, 7.8-1 ,  Berg 42's, stock weight flywheel, 1 3/8 header w/ heater boxes in a early bay. It made 107hp on Jaycee's dyno, I cannot remember the tq, But I do remember it was very flat from about 2k rpm on up to about 5k where it stopped. The driving impression felt like much more than the 107 hp, It was very lively & dead smooth throughout the range. It was actually a fun to drive bus,  very unsuspecting to those next to it who where trying to get around it at all cost.  My point is do not rule out the 110 in your 1776 you should have similar results with the exception of the rpm being moved up because of the smaller displacement.  Hope this is of some help   Bill

in my engine it is a webcam 218/119 works like a charm.
similar to a w110 but with more lift for the inlet.

This is the dyno of my 1971ccm with 280 degree (0 lift) webcam  494 (it is advertised at 288 degrees and 0.465"lift. But it is really 280 degrees and 0.435" lift at the valve), stock heads (914), 9.1:1 C/R.
The torque just stays flat up through the revs!  136hp/185nm
Runs 150 hm/h all day without overheating (90 degree oiltemp), and you can build it so it looks almost like a type1 engine (last pic shows engine in my car), but the cool temperatures is what really impressed me when going the type4 route, and in a bus that probably wont harm anything.
The handdrawn one is the corrected hp/nm on the engine, and the computer dynoprints are on the wheels.

i had good results with a FK-41 and 1.25s in my 76x88 bus engine, stock heads, dual kads
