Can someone please explain to me why the magneto is so much better on a small engine as opposed to on a big one(and to using a distributor)? I have read several places that the magneto works great, but that there is no point in installing one unless you want it because of the look, or you need it because the lack of battery in the car.
A magneto works good on any engine, big or small, doesn't matter.
It generates it's own power, so the higher the rpms, the bigger the spark.
I noticed a big difference compared to the 009 I ran before.
But it's an old design, it's heavy, and it wil ask a little extra power from the engine to turn over. So yes, today's modern electronic ignition systems probably work equally good, but they're not my cup of tea.
