I have been trying to install a type 4 in to bug conversion kit and I have hit a few problems. It came from sharpbuilt in Australia I have tried emailing Mike Sharp the supplier for help but have received no response.
Problems are as follows
1. The bottom pulley has the timing marked on what seems to the back because when the timing marks face out of the engine bay the pulley rubs on the engine case. Do I need to space it off or should it just be fitted with timing marks facing in.
2. What size of fan belt do you use? I think it should be 9.5mm wide but what’s the length.
3. How do you hold the top pulley on? According to the instructions you have to turn this round to get it to line up with the bottom pulley. Once this is done the original nut doesn’t fit so what do you use.
Any tips or photos from anyone with some experience of this conversion would be great.
Regards Ron

I have no experiance in the Sharpbuilt kit. I have used German Auto and CSP:s kits and now how they work. If I can supply you with any help just drop me a mail at sven-olof.brorsson@telia.com and I will try to help you. I think, humble as I am, that a type 4 motor is superior to a type 1!!

I think, humble as I am, that a type 4 motor is superior to a type 1!! [/quote] I have just spend the last week trying to get a 1800cc type4 head for my 74bay window the hold thing has been a pain in the ass. So no the type 4 is not the superior motor type 1 all the way.

Not so little anymore he weighs in at 15 1/2 stone so I'm told. He just got a job in the mines up north in New South Wales and bought a split screen panel van which he's doing up.
