Just read my new copy of Volksworld and there is a reference to a new 5 speed type 1 box by Bears Motorsport.

It is swing axle or IRS and is cable operated.

Pic can be found here: http://www.bearsmotorsport.co.uk/

Does anybody have any more info on this box, especially regards the gear lever/modifications.

TIA.

Hey,

I was round at Bears on Saturday picking some axels up and I had a quick look at the new 5 speed set up, very nice bit of kit.  They are constantly updating and modifying the set up on the box to make it better and more cost effective.  Paul (the owner) told me that they have changed the cable shift set up to a rod set up, so that you can still use your own shifter, the only difference being that the reverse gear would be located underneath the 5th gear.  He was quoting me around £3500 for a guaranteed full built type 1 box with the 5 speed set up which uses a 1pc lengthened main shaft (unlike the berg unit which uses a welded lengthened one).  If you after more info give Paul a call, he's a really helpful guy.

Hope this gives a little more insight into the set up

I don't know if it is still true but on the Berg 5-Speed, you have/had the option to get either a welded mainshaft, or a one-piece gear set from Albins/Weddle.

One piece mainshafts are available... not cheap, but available.

Sorry,  Embarrassed
My mistake, I was trying to remember all the info Paul had said to me on Saturday Cheesy,
I do remember him mentioning that you could get a 1pc main shaft for the berg, tho at a price.
